Do we really need Mike James next year?

By reading that last article about Mike James regarding Alvin Williams, I'm like oh ****! That's right, we still have him. He should be able to play next season. So he could start, Jose of the bench and we did sign Barrett.

So why do we need Mike James? Mo Pete is doing a great job at SG, we can have Graham come off the bench behind Eva and Mo Pete.

It's crazy that I completely forgot about Alvin, we still have him.

So your plan is to replace one healthy player with two injured ones?

The only thing that Alvin is to this team is a cap obsticle.

Next thing you know he'll mention that mythical Roko creature...
He can't retire (to benefit our cap room) if he plays more than 10 games in a year, or is it season? We were talking before like there were only ten games between the end of this season and the start of next that he can play before he goes back on the cap, even if he were to retire; he could play 9 games, be declared by a team doctor to be unfit to play, and would come off the books as soon the league okayed the retirement. This is obviously why BC is keeping him on the injured list: it just makes sense. AW is going to keep his extension money, battle it out in training camp, play a few games, and see how things go. AW knows what's going on and I doubt he'll insist on practicing through pain without court time as a reward when he already has his cheque. I'm predicting an early retirement next season, which would give us another little bump of cap room and make trades a lot easier next season.

Nice to hear that Alvin has been practicing, I guess I knew that he had been but certainly hadn't thought about it. Still, if Calderon is barely playing, there's no way that AW should get many minutes.

I don't think Alvin factors into our future plans at all. I think he is only working out right now so that when he takes his players option he at least makes it look like he honestly tried to come back, rather than picking it up from his couch.

If our guard rotation is Calderon and Barrett next year we shouldn't talk about the playoffs.
you guys don't think that AW will be healthy next season?

damn, I didn't know how bad his situation was.

He's played 10 NBA minutes in the last two and a half years.
Banking on Alvin to be healthy is a very, very wrong approach to next season. Mike James or not, our point guard situation is nowhere near complete without some more help.

Not for the 6-9 million a year long-term contract he wants. He's just not the best guy to develop our younger players with, nor does he fit with our youth movement. We need a playmaker.

But anyone who thinks Jose is capable of being a starter next year is kidding themselves (Alvin or Ukic is more ridiculous).

Aside from a trade, I don't see any options for us at the 1. Rest assured, a trade will happen. There's no PG in the draft worth picking up with our pick (even if we trade down, no one is capable of a starting role). The FA market seems quite weak. MJ, Bobby Jackson, and Jason Terry are capable starters but unfortunately combo guards. Speedy would be nice, but his health has always been a question.

The point is; we don't need Mike James but we need a trade.

Or maybe BC is willing to sacrifice the playoffs by not paying MJ and grooming Jose as our starter?
if James wants to return here than agree in the 3.5-5 mill range if he stays with 6 mill screw u Mike James.

Even if he has to accept a contract lower than 6 because of market demand, he'll be sour and bitter and I would be worried about how it would affect his on court performance. It seems the two options are overpay or deal with a sour Mike James, a lose-lose situation if you ask me.

mike james is an odd case for this team. we're certainly important to him, but he's likewise important to us. will he be back? i don't know for sure but i wouldn't doubt it. we may not have his bird's but we have his early's. and that should be enough... i think.

but if we don't re-sign him, are we seriously talking about alvin williams? come on now. if this guy contributed another 5 mpg for the rest of his life i'd be surprised. probably shocked. the contract we signed with that man has turned out to be... well, certainly among the worst we ever signed with anyone, if not at the very top of the list. that's saying quite a bit. he's a 'good guy' and everything, we can talk about that till the cows come home, but the money and term he got for his value never matched (imo). this rehab, if he were actually allowed to be honest through the media and to the public, is at best- at best- a case of alvin being in denial. however, given what i've always thought of him and the high praise he's always received from his peers, i think he's trying to retire with at least an ounce of integrity- i.e. at least give it a shot.

the paramount consideration is of course the option on his deal, and 'ethical' players would likely feel guilty about picking it up, but it's a lot of money. even ethics and morality has a price these days. alvin's probably looking to somehow justify the cash- what is it, $15M? the above argument about his 10 game restriction is certainly playing a role, i think, and for that reason i simply wouldn't expect him to ever become a rotation player again.

but becoming the starting pg for a sam mitchell/bryan colangelo offense with youth flanking him all over the court? how soon we forget. the marriage between alvin williams and the toronto raptors will always be strong... but actually putting it in practice again is another issue entirely.

peace

Believe it or not, we need to deal both Mo & James together. IMO it's time for Pete to move on...nothing against him really but I think if we can include him in a deal with James we can get something really good.
Who do you need?

Mike James!!!

(yes This is the 1,000,000th time that joke has been used and it has not gotten old)
