Read it earlier today. Don't know that Dunphy is going to jump for the Temple job, granted a higher conference and probably more money but a radically different situation in terms of the recruiting.Hoops131 said:

Coaching scoop? I've got coaching scoop. Here's what I (and now you) are hearing:
Temple: Word is, this is Penn coach Fran Dunphy's job to turn down. And he won't.
Penn: Siena coach Fran McCaffery, a Philadelphia native and Penn alum, is a lock.
Siena: Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, who can recruit up-state New York better than anyone in the business and will be motivated to prove he's Jim Boeheim's replacement in 10 years, will be the guy.
He played baseball at La Salle w/ the current AD at Temple. He's certainly proven all he's had to at that level...Obviously he doesn't have to move his family to go to Temple, and I got a feeling he wants to see how he can do on a more national level with a bigger budget and in a multiple bid league.RiderRaver said:Read it earlier today. The Ivies might not really like the political issues on campus that would arise from paying big bucks to new coaches. Could be wrong about that, but it's a thought. Oh well, we'll see how it plays out. Just because someone is speculating on a fit doesn't mean it's happening or going to happen. Even the upstart Doyel.SienaTony said:Raver you obviously don't have a clue, so let me fill you in. Dunphy is the highest paid coach in the Ivy league at 325K.. and the only reason Dunphy’s getting that much is LaSalle bid him up last year plus he’s been at Penn what 8 years. A new coach at Penn would be lucky to get 225K.. I wonder why ryder coaches never get mentioned for job openings? Oh yea you actually have to win, who would want Dempsey or Harnum ? Will be interesting to see what Rider’s commitment to D1 hoops is, if they let a loser like Dempsey continue coaching at Ryder. If they do that will say volumes for Ryder’s lack of commitment to the hoops program
You need to get a clue, dude. I am sure Siennnnna is going to triple his salary for an early exit in the MAAC tournament on your own floor. Tony, lay off the sauce. It is Sunday evening.SienaTony said:I've heard he made 140K last season, Fran and his attorney have already met with Siena, they have basically agreed in principle on a new deal... While I don’t think he will be getting Ruland type money Fran will get in a heathly raise
This almost doesn't merit a response. Siena was supposed to struggle to win three games this season according to many people. He has shown he has the ability to coach and is worth keeping. If someone swooped in with major dollars, I don't think Siena would compete, but that's another story. Your "early exit" statement is just dumb. They got a first-round bye instead of ending up where your club did this year. Plus I have my doubts that anyone at Siena wants to find a new coach every year - if there really is a play for McCaffery Siena should be expected to go as high as its value of its basketball program allows it to.RiderRaver said:You need to get a clue, dude. I guess he's back for more, the stupid goose chase he started on Friday apparently wasn't enough for him to back off. At least this time he's not trying to use facts.SienaTony said:What are you drinking this afternoon raver? Stop talking stupid. Who said triple his salary? I said a healthy raise, never said triple, heck Siena won’t even double his money. But he will be the 3rd highest paid coach in the MAAC after his extension. But they will pay more than a 1st year coach at Penn will get.
So raver what’s your take on Ryder and Dempsey? Does he come back or does Ryder go back to mediocre Harnum?
Wasn't my point. I think he is a good coach, it is inane Tony trying to make the case that Penn can't offer him more money when the job opens up. Just sounds like a dope. If Penn wants him and he wants Penn, he'll be gone.ARCRat said:This almost doesn't merit a response. Siena was supposed to struggle to win three games this season according to many people. Thought you were bright enough to understand that I misquoted the point I wanted to make. And that is that prior to this season RIDER has the 3rd highest winning percentage in MAAC History. Sorry, it won't happen again.ARCRat said:I guess he's back for more, the stupid goose chase he started on Friday apparently wasn't enough for him to back off. You're talking about the same school where the students publish a campus porno mag with student-only 'models'. It is a very liberal school with boat-loads of money.ARCRat said:The Ivies might not really like the political issues on campus that would arise from paying big bucks to new coaches. 1. That statistic is skewed by the fact that Rider has a much smaller body of league games given it's relatively short membership in the MAAC.RiderRaver said:Thought you were bright enough to understand that I misquoted the point I wanted to make. That statistic seems to bother you quite a bit. Is it because you are afraid to admit that Rider has been successful?Sienafan said:1. That statistic is skewed by the fact that Rider has a much smaller body of league games given it's relatively short membership in the MAAC.
2. After this season's disaster, that stat isn't even accurate anymore, so stop refering to it.
Doesn't bother me at all. Rider hasn't done bad for itself at all given its disadvantages, and a successful Rider (or any other member school) is good for the MAAC. However, the fact remains that the two former NEC schools are the only current MAAC members never to win a league tourney championship, so I guess the definiton of success is relative.RiderRaver said:That statistic seems to bother you quite a bit.
