Derrick Whittenburg was at a gathering of Fordham alums last night and didn't mention any names but said we're close to signing 2 guards. Most people assume he was talking about Herb Tanner from Boston via Stoneridge Prep and Rob Hampton of Christ the King in NY.

La Salle got a verbal committment from 6'5" guard Ruben Guillandeaux from St.Patrick's HS in Elizabeth, NJ (the USA Today's 11th ranked team in the country) back in February. He's expected to sign his LOI this week, if he hasn't already. It just hasn't been announced by the school yet. Our 4 other committments (Yves Mbala, Kimmani Barrett, Brian Grimes, Rodney Green) all signed back in the Fall, and the sixth member of the class, DeSean White, transferred in from Providence at mid-term and will be eligible at the end of the 2006 Fall semester.

The Bonnies signed 2 JUCO teammates on the first day to go along with 2 from the fall. We have 1 more scholarship to offer, hopefully a 4 yr PF or C.

Summarizing the Bona Press release:
Zarryon Fereti, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard and Jermaine Calvin, a 5-foot-11 point guard, teammates at the College of Southern Idaho, a very solid JUCO program. Will both have 2 years remaining.

Fereti averaged 2.5 made 3's per game and averaged 14.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per. Calvin is a PG who looks to distribute, averaging 7.6 points, 6 assists, 3 steals and 3.8 rebounds per.
Calvin played his freshman year at Utah with Andrew Bogut and contributed to that Sweet 16 team.

There is excitement with these signings. 3 pt shooting and solid pg distribution was really lacking and hurt us last year. Heres hoping they can give us some production approaching their output at the JUCO level. Bona fans would be ecstatic.

what makes you think he isn't? have you seen him play? why do you insist on being a cancer?
Relax ktabz16, I said it tongue-in-cheek. We all do the same thing. I am not picking on UMass. Soak your head in cold water and cool off.

Dayton now has two open Scholarships, but one (Cripe's) has already been targeted for the HS class of 2007. With the other UD is looking for a JUCO big man who can step in and contribute right away. However if they don't find a good fit I figure they'll save the ship for a top name next year. There are rumblings that someone will get signed, but it could just be wishful thinking.

My question is who is everyone targeting for next year. Our four biggest targets are JuJuan Johnson, Dante Jackson, D.J. Kennedy, and DaJuan Blair.

JaJuan is a four star recruit, #61 on the Rivals 100, and he is down to Purdue and Xavier even though if Indiana offers him he will accept. http://xavier.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=532830

Dante Jackson, is a three star recruit who while he says he is down to Michigan, Dayton, Xavier, and Kentucky, it is really a two pony race between Dayton and Xavier UNLESS Ohio State offers (which isn't likely). http://xavier.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=520890

I think both D.J. and DaJuan are leaning heavily towards Xavier. http://xavier.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=527988 and http://xavier.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=494005

If all four of those people landed at Xavier we would be VERY strong for years to come.
