Oh man. This season was a rough one and now I'm wondering if there was anything more than the usual tension in the locker room that comes with losing a lot of winnable games. Without the leadership of Whyte and Harper, EBW would've seemed like the natural choice to be one of the team leaders.

Well, now there's more clarity to next season. There's no pretense that they'll compete at the top unless they can fill EBW and Morales departures with better options through the portal. So it should be a clear rebuilding year with the intention of getting a lot of meaningful minutes for freshmen and sophomores.

We really are turning over a new leaf now. A steady hand like EBW would have been tremendously valuable - I expected him to be undisputed leader of the team next year. Another tough loss.

Expecting any more of these @robinhood ??

I have a feeling that these two transfers were not expected. The recruiting approach this year would not indicate that the coaches expected these two guys to leave. This places us in a tough spot recruiting since if we bring in replacements (which we need to do) we won’t have these scholarships available for the 2024 class.
Funny, CJ and Damen Tate both fell from the rotation and I anticipated a transfer by one of them. We will see.

iMO, I think the ones that are entering the Portal would have done it last year but didn't have sufficient game minutes/stats/film to land in a good spot. The 5th year guys coming back didn't help playing time either. It's just a shame because the guys seemed to be so tight but I get everyone has to do what's best for themselves in the long run. It's just such a gamble. I was talking to a College Coach last year at this time and he said 2 of 15 kids in the Portal went to the same level or higher than where they left. Of the other 13, they either went down or didn't get picked up anywhere. Not a fun experience in the short period that Fletch was in it. He was very blessed to be able to play a 5th year at BU.

I feel badly for this particular group of kids. Some began their careers during the Covid season and then had their development delayed because of the extra year of eligibility given to the kids who were older. Funny that these guys were finally in a position to assume major roles and are deciding to take a chance with the portal. Taking a chance that they will find a new home and if they do taking a chance with a new coaching staff. Not everyone in the coaching profession treats their players as well as the BU staff does.

Sad to see these three go. I think they are all talented players, three potential starters, that didn't get to showcase their skills to some extent. I think these were strictly business decisions and not a sign of disfunction within the team. It seemed like everyone got along and supported each other. Even though I suggested reasons to stay, trying new things and places is also a pretty good reason to transfer. Since EBW and Tate are getting their degrees they're in a position to do that.

I haven't tried to do any calculations but it really seems like the majority of players do not level up. Maybe for some it wasn't totally their decision or they were encouraged to look elsewhere. Seems unlikely that's the case for these three (or more). Really interested to see where they land.

Thanks for this insight. If you don't mind elaborating, what wasn't fun about the portal experience? Just anxiety of not knowing?
