Packers WR Ferguson re-injures knee in practice

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay Packers receiver Robert Ferguson re-injured his left knee Friday and was carted off the field just one day after returning to practice.

Ferguson missed the last three games after tearing a ligament in the knee during a 23-20 loss at Minnesota on Oct. 23. He is expected to be evaluated further on Saturday, team spokesman Aaron Popkey said late Friday afternoon.

Coach Mike Sherman wasn't made available to reporters Friday. He is expected to update Ferguson's status during his scheduled news conference Saturday after practice.

"It's just bad luck. There's nothing we can do about it," receiver Donald Driver said of the spate of injuries to Green Bay's offensive players this season. "How do you get good luck? Do you need to do something, give somebody a gift or something? I don't know. But, right now, it just seems like it's not going our way."

Ferguson returned to practice on a full-time basis Thursday and declared himself ready to play in the rematch on Monday night between the Packers (2-7) and Vikings (4-5) in Green Bay. He was listed on the injury report as questionable before he went down again on Friday.

"It was almost at the end (of practice)," receiver Antonio Chatman said. "That's what makes it even worse. We had only like two more plays left. It was a freak accident. It's crazy."

Packers WR Ferguson re-injures knee in practice

Wide receiver Robert Ferguson's comeback may have been temporarily derailed.

According to a team spokesman, Ferguson had his left knee rolled up on while running a fade route during the last few plays of practice on Friday afternoon. He aggravated the same knee he injured during the first quarter of the Oct. 23 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

"We thought we were going to be back up," wide receiver Antonio Chatman said. "We don't know what to expect now."

Ferguson remains listed as questionable on the injury report. The team did not downgrade him but will re-evaluate his status on Saturday.

Ferguson's availability would allow the Packers to use a four-receiver set, featuring him, Donald Driver, Chatman and Andrae Thurman, for the first time since Ferguson initially hurt his left knee.

The fifth-year receiver had looked sharp while practicing during Thursday and Friday's sessions and repeatedly told members of the media that he would play on Monday.

"We were so happy to have him back," Driver said. "We're hoping that whatever happened isn't serious and we're hoping that we can have him back for that Monday night game."

Ferguson's knee injury not as serious as feared

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay Packers receiver Robert Ferguson's knee injury isn't as serious as originally thought, and coach Mike Sherman hasn't ruled him out of playing against Minnesota on Monday night.

Ferguson, who has missed the last three games, had tests Saturday that revealed an aggravation of a bruise in the left knee, stemming from the torn lateral-collateral ligament. Some teammates had speculated that Ferguson may have aggravated the LCL tear during practice Friday.

"I thought it might have been (a major setback). But, no," Sherman said Saturday. "He had very little swelling today, and everything was real tight in the examination."

Green Bay kept Ferguson listed as questionable on the injury report.

"I think he has a chance (to play). If anybody does, it would be him," Sherman said.
