Free Agent Bigs: Wilcox, Gooden or Nene?

Assume: a) the Bulls sign Mohommed to be a solid veteran presence at starting C; b) they don't like Harrington because of Nocioni's recent emergence; c) whichever big man they draft (Thomas or Aldridge) is not ready to contribute a lot right away; d) they view Tyson as ideally suited to come of the bench.

Would you prefer: Nene at $6 million; Gooden at $7 million; or Wilcox at 8.5$ million? (and are these salary estimates realistic?)

After the VladRad trade, I cant see the Sonics allowing Wilcox to sign elsewhere. At the same time, you cant ignore the "contract year" issue with him, although he didnt receive many opportunities from the Clipps.

Still, I would go after him. If not, Gooden. I like Nene, but is he going to come back at 100%? He improved a lot in the low post, he brings energy and boards. Big body.

And then there is the draft factor, which might include trades.
You're going to have to trade someone (Duhon, Sweetney, draft choice) to get any of those guys as well as put up the money. So, it matters less how much you pay them than who we have to trade to get each of them.

Nene's especially seems low. And I think Wilcox may still be the least pursed of the three. So I guess I see all three gettting similar deals.
Jackie Butler!
Nene, assuming he passes a physical.

Although Gooden seems the most attainable, because I get the impression Cleveland wouldn't mind letting him walk.
Too lazy to make another thread but here's some more on Wilcox .
SEATTLE (AP) -- With every thunderous dunk, soft 8-foot jump hook and one-handed rebound he rips down in traffic, the dollar amount in Chris Wilcox's next contract continues to escalate.

And the Seattle SuperSonics know it.

"As good as he's played, he has a lot more potential," Seattle coach Bob Hill said. "His upside is huge."
In Sunday's win over Phoenix, Wilcox posted his fourth straight double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. Not coincidentally, Seattle won its season-high fourth consecutive game.
The last four games have been his most impressive. Wilcox started April with 18 points and 13 rebounds against Portland. Two nights later, Wilcox dominated Yao Ming on the interior, scoring 26 and pulling off a career-high 24 rebounds versus the Rockets.

He had a workmanlike 20 points and 10 rebounds against Portland last Friday before helping Seattle knock off the Pacific Division champs on Sunday.

They love him there. And while I think he'll probably take a dip in production if he gets a fat contract, there's no doubt that he could turn out to be quite the player people thought he might be when he was drafted.

They surely do, but is Seattle the team that'll fork over a sizable contract, I highly doubt it.
I like all three, but here is my order:
1) Gooden
2) Wilcox
3) Nene
NeNe...

then

Gooden....

C NeNe / Mohammed
F Aldridge (or Thomas) / Chandler / Songalia

I LOVE IT! :)
Anybody think Wallace might be growing FOND of the Bulls with their 2nd straight appearance? Plus we MAY PLAY THEM.

I think if :

1. Detriot doesn't win the championship

and

2. The disagreements with him and Saunders continue

We may have an actual shot at landing him.

Ben Wallace is too old for this team unless Paxson decides to also trade for Pierce or Garnett and make an immediate title run.

isn't he 29? even if he's just 30, a 3 year deal wouldn't be bad.

drafting aldridge or thomas, he could mentor our young bigs we coulld possibly go DEEP next year.

C Wallace / Chandler
F T.T. or L.A / Songalia
F Deng / Nocioni
G Gordon / #15 pick (Brewer or Roby)
G Hinirch / Duhon

Ben is 31 right now and will have recently turned 32 at the beginning of next season.

ROY, I think you're dreaming if you think Wallace isn't going to sign at least a five year deal this offseason, or at least four years with a fifth year option of some kind. I know he's old for that, but that's the spoils of being an All Star. These types (Camby, Nash, Kidd) have all gotten six year deals while still in their 30's.

you may be right...

I didn't know he was 32 anyway, players that old don't wanna start over anyway.
I wish I could pretend to know which one. So hard to predict when you have 2 guys with the dreaded upside label, and another guy with the underacheiver label.

The good news is, they all seem to have a fairly decent floor level...a good enough floor that we probably can't go wrong and end up anything but much better. At least deeper when you factor in Songaila returning. We'll be in good shape no mater what. I kind of favor Nene just because he's very big. And if the Bulls really want Wilcox, they should have no trouble coming up with am acceptable S&T package with all the assets they have to offer.

I still think the Bulls are going to pull the trigger on some kind of trade for a big instead of signing one of these 3.
I don't like the idea of giving wilcox all that money cuz of his recent play. Elton Brand was with him for years, and if he said that Wilcox doesn't work hard enough to be better, I'll listen to him. It looks like he's playing for a contract.

The question we need to get answered is if Paxson wants to return Chandler back to PF full-time.

its so hard to tell with a young guy without knowing what he's up to in practice and in his personal life. Research is where you might get the final answer, and only acess to inside info can help

and the question about Tyson is if some of his poor play is related to his health. He's looking worn down to me. If the answers are that they don't think Tyson will work hard enough to alleviate his health concerns, or is just a chronic bad back forever, You can safely say the Bulls are probably looking for a way out on Chandler. Especially if the Bulls land a guy like Noah or Aldridge to take his place.
Its not that they wouldn't like to keep Tyson because they probably would. But coming off the bench at his salary is unnaceptable. If Tysons best spot is coming off the bench, he's a goner some day.

The guess is the Bulls will keep him in his present condition only as long as it takes to develop whoever they draft with the Knicks pick....and what are the odds Tyson condition (his level of play) gets better? Not that good, despite all the prayerful theories about his young age and whatnot. Not unless his back condition gets better. The guy just looks less mobile to me.

NENE.because i think he will come the cheapest and has the highest reward vs risk of the 3...
