Charlotte lands coveted recruit
6-7 Mississippi forward also considered UConn

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The top high school basketball player from Mississippi has made a verbal commitment to join the Charlotte 49ers next season, the Observer has learned.

David Booker, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward for Moss Point High, was named Mr. Basketball for the state of Mississippi after averaging 27 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in his senior season.

Booker's commitment cannot become official until the spring signing period next month. He recently announced his final schools of interest were Charlotte, Connecticut and Northwestern.

If Booker signs as expected, he will become the sixth member of next season's class, joining three other freshmen and two junior-college transfers.

Last week, 49ers coach Bobby Lutz had said he had two remaining scholarships available for next season. Booker's commitment would leave one.

Booker is a versatile player with good perimeter skills. He averaged 37.8 points per game in his last four games for Moss Point (22-9).

Northwestern was involved? Must be a good student which is good news. I know they were waiting for some kids to qualify but won't have worries with this kid.
Beasley has verbaled, but he won't be here until 2007.
Lutz can certainly recruit. Great news for the 49ers.
Good news is we finally have a good amount of freshman coming in instead of Jucos. Probably won't be good next year, but in the next few years I see great things.

Scratch what Max? Is he no longer coming, or coming next year, not sure what you mean.

In his snapshot, WH listed 6 guys coming in next year and Booker wasn't one of them. This article says Booker makes 6 with one ship still open. Can anybody clarify this?

WH's list:

RECRUITS

1) Sean Phaler F 6-9 195 Fullerton JC/New Mexico

2) Cameron Tatum G/F 6-5 190 Tucker, Ga.

3) Charles Dewhurst F/G 6-5 175 Charlotte, NC

4) Ian Anderson PG 6-4 180 Portland, OR

5) Carlos Williams PG 6-1 185 Wabash CC

6) An’Juan Wilderness WF 6-5 210 Dunwoody, GA

Word today is Niner asst Dalonte Hill is joining the K-State staff with Huggins. Hill was the main link to Beasley. Its thought the relationship of AAU DC team and Adidas are involved in this connection. It seems Beasley to Charlotte is now on thin ice.
Ahh man, that is a killer. This Beasley situation was the ultimate tease if he ends up in K-State. My heart goes out to the Charlotte fans, and the A-10. I've seen this kid 5-6 times and couldn't wait to see him in this conference. Hopefully, Lutz can use some of that southern charm to make him stay. Charlotte seems to recruit pretty well, would you say that a large part is b/c of Hill or mostly Lutz?
For Niner fans, what were the chances that Beasley was 1 year and done?
I'm sorry I think this is just one of many reasons Temple should have strongly considered Huggins. you know he is gonna kill it in recruiting. yeah he has baggage but the need for temple to rise back to prominence overrides that. I thought it would have been a great fit.

Both, Hill was our DC/Bmore connection. Moxley used to work the Juco circuit for us and Benny Moss was our southern guy. We've now lost 2 of those 3. We were still looking at some good jucos, so that hadnt fallen off too badly.

Throw out a number between 90-100% and you've got it. Still, our ramp up was built upon 2007 being a special season for us, with Beasely as the centerpiece of a young, athletic team with a good deal of talent and a senior PG.

I find that comment to be borderline ridiculous. As you said, Huggins has a lot of baggage from his players getting into trouble to he himself getting into trouble to his players not graduating, the list goes on. And you think that Temple should overlook all of this why? Because they need to build a basketball program? I just don't see how rising back to prominence is more important than making sure that the person that most visibly represents your university is someone you can be proud of and will represent the university well. Is Jim Harrick available?
who said Temple would not be proud of him and he would not represent the university well?? has chaney represented temple well recently with the goon incident? (and I like Chaney & have respect for him, just saying). Temple certainly didnt take a hard stance there. obviously kansas state hired huggins and weighed everything. dont act like temple is on some higher moral ground here. I have not heard of huggins breaking ncaa rules (like harrick). yes his players didnt graduate. I dont think Temple has led the way in that area either. huggins had a problem with alcohol and got a DUI. well, our President used to do Coke and had a DUI. I dont think my statements were ridiculous at all.

basketball is important at Temple. Temple is important to A10. rising back to prominence is better PR for the school than hiring a choir boy. dont get me wrong, I dont think huggins would be a good fit everywhere. but I think Huggins would have worked out well at Temple.
Huggins gained the support of certain very influencial boosters/board members. He was able to undermine the authority of the AD. Basically he became the AD's boss. That was the problem at Cincy; and the power he was able to obtain wasn't premeditated if you will, it just developed over time. Ultimately, he crossed certain boosters/board members, and you know the rest of the story....

Huggins failures, to a large degree, were a failure of his bosses, IMO. It's a lesson for all institutions.
Here is the story as near as I can piece it together:

Facts
1) Huggy to K'State
2) Dalonte Hill is an alum and coach at Charlotte
3) Mike Beasley is the #2 recruit in the 07 class
4) Beasley verballed to Charlotte
5) Dalonte Hill was Beasley's AA coach with the DC Assault and was the point man in recruiting him.
6) The DC Assualt is a Adidas team
7) Charlotte is a Nike school
8) K'State is a Adidas school

Speculation
Adidas doesn't want Beasley to go to a Nike school. Huggins hires Dalonte Hill to get to Beasley.
Adidas sends kickbacks around.

He's going to K-State and he will more than likely be one and done. Niner fans shouldn't be too mad, because had there been no age limit, Beasley wasn't going to college anyway.
