Tonight's game: Heat at Jazz

Posted January 15 2004

When/where: 9 p.m., Delta Center, Salt Lake City.

Broadcast: TV - Sunshine. Radio - WIOD (610-AM), WBZT (1230-AM), WACC (830-AM, Spanish).

About the Heat: The Heat enters 4-17 on the road against an opponent that is 16-3 at home. This is the first game of the two-game season series. The Heat has lost its past five to the Jazz, as well as its past two at the Delta Center. Utah is without its top three scorers from last season's series, with Karl Malone with the Lakers, John Stockton retired and Matt Harpring sidelined for the season with a knee injury. What hasn't changed is the aggressive defense stressed by Utah coach Jerry Sloan that limited the Heat to .352 shooting in last season's two meetings. Guard Dwyane Wade (wrist) and forwards Jerome Beasley (back) and Samaki Walker (ankle) are on the injured list.

About the Jazz: On "retro" night at the Delta Center, Utah will celebrate its 25th year in Salt Lake City by wearing its uniforms from the 1979-80 season, jerseys highlighted by a purple, green and yellow note at the start of the team name. Utah has won five in a row at home and has stood at .500 or above the entire season, despite the offseason losses of Malone and Stockton and the season-ending knee problems for Harpring. The Jazz has outrebounded the opposition in nine of its past 11. Former Florida International guard Carlos Arroyo has led the Jazz in assists 19 times and in scoring eight times, including 19 points in Tuesday's 97-80 victory over Golden State. Former FIU forward Raja Bell has led the Jazz in scoring four times and in rebounding once. Guard Mo Williams (ankle) is questionable. Forward Keon Clark (ankle) and centers Curtis Borchardt (wrist) and Ben Handlogten (knee) are on the injured list.
