The Miami Heat signed Caron Butler, the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft,on Wednesday.
Butler a 6-foot-6,220 pound forward from Connecticut,is a slasher and a scorer with a reputation for playing his best in BIG games --
all attributes the Heat lacked last season as they finished with a 36-46 record, sixth in the seventh-team Atlantic Division.
Small forward was the weakest position last season on coach Pat Riley's roster.
Butler didnt miss a game because of injury in two seasons at UConn. He finished his college career with 1,136 points,477 rebounds,190 assists and 143 steals. He shot 46.5 percent from the field, including 36.4 percent from 3-point range, and 76.8 percent from the free throw line.
He also scored in double digits in all but one of his 63 college games.
Butler is participating in the Heats summer workouts, the team said.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but under the NBA's rookie wage scale last years No. 10 pick,Joe Johnson of Arkansas, signed with the Boston Celtics for a three-year deal worth within 20 percent of $4.3 million.
