who is your pick for the next star center?
1. Jackie Butler 17 C 6-11 270- great D and rebounding, good perimeter game, needs O-post work.

2. Al Jefferson 17 PF/C 6-9 285- fat but great O-post skills, mediocre D, more like Zach Randolph II than Shaq II.

3. Kendrick Perkins 17 PF/C 6-9 265- great perimeter game but more like Tim Duncan than a dominent inside force.

4. Derrick Caracter 14 C 6-9 286- young, giant baby, nice handles and perimeter game, great passer, needs post work and muscle.

name others you know of......

None of these guys are future centers but and your off on some of these rankings.

Perkins has very little perimeter game. He rarely scores outside of 6 feet and Duncan is a horrible comparsion. He plays similar to Amare Stoudemire only he is a far less athletic but far more developed in terms of post moves and defense.

Butler is only about 6'10" 240 and doesn't show up that often.

I wouldnt write off any of the guys, especially Caracter. All are 6'9+ and are still teenagers. Caracter is 6'9 at 14 ... He's going to grow a couple more inches. At his bulk, he's going to have to be a 5 cuz he won't have the agility to play anything else.

Yeah, RD your right that Character could grow. It's easy to forget how young these kids are. Even the seniors could add another inch or two.

Brian Butch is headed for college but he does have an NBA future. He is super skinny right now (He is listed at 215 some places). He has a good jump shot and is developing in the low post. He plays kind of similar to Curtis Borchardt of Stanford. He isn't a threat to jump straight out of high school but some rankings now have him a top 5 player. Hopefully, he will sign with the Tar Heels.

David Padgett is a solid big man who will be headed to school as well. He's from Nevada so he doesn't get a lot of top competition but when he does he performs will. He could also be a Tar Heel but I'm not banking on it.

Chris Taft is a good athlete who doesn't bring it every game but could be a superstar espically on the college level. Grades are a concern but guess what? My Heels are on the top of his lists.

Shagari Alleyne is a treat to watch. The guy is a legit 7'2" he is closely narrowing in on 7'3". He very skinny and a little awkard but he shows great promise. His a good shot blocker and he has good athleticism for his size. Lets also not forget he wears the Horace Grant style goggles

Another interesting kid to watch. Kenneth Harris is 6'9" 351 and has already given his verbal to Valparaiso. He isn't just another fat player either. He has soft hands and nimble feet for a man that size. Some reports ranked him the number one center at the NIKE camp ahead of Alleyne.

Jackie Butler does not live up to the attention he is getting. I've watched him in person during the Atlanta Basketball Classic and I was not impressed. He is physically bigger than 95% of his class but he doesn't take advantage of his size.

He stands around the basket but doesn't work hard for position or rebounds. He doesn't show much effort. But I've talked to my contacts that work in the recruiting field full time and they say he does play hard at times.

My question is: Why does he think he is NBA material? He isn't. Not yet, at least.

Fat? No way. He's a big kid but certainly not fat. After watching him at the Nike Peach Jam last week, I was really impressed by him. He is a super player and deserves to be called the best junior in the country. He's a great kid with great skills.

His coach told me that Jefferson was 30 pounds lighter last year and was dunking on everyone. Big Al even agreed that he needs to get back into full shape. He's young and he plans on going to a school in the SEC. Perfect. He will shine in the physical style of that league.

His defense is not mediocre. It's pretty solid. He moves extremely well under the basket and has soft hands and a nice touch.

Huh? Perkins is a force inside the paint. Great perimeter game? Where did you get that? Perkins is a hoss. He dominates inside the paint.

The kid is 14. Let's let him grow up a little. The 6-9, 286 is way off. I stood next to him at the Peach Jam and I'd say he's 6-7, 260. Still. He's good but let him enjoy his freshman year.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I think everybody talks pro because he talks pro. Plus, when he does bring his A game, their is nobody on the high school level who can guard him, so everybody is going to put in in his head. His rankings are dropping now though and I think he is going on a Sani Ibrahim type ride.

What is your thoughts on Butch, Taft, Padgett and Brian Johnson?
