A 6-8 guard who can pass, score, rebound and play defense, Steve Smith came into the NBA touted by some as another Magic Johnson. Although he hasn't quite matched Johnson's success, he has performed at a high level in each of his NBA seasons and in 1994 earned a berth on the Dream Team that competed in the World Championship of Basketball. In 1998, Smith received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award from the Professional Basketball Writers Association for his outstanding community service and charity work, especially his $2.5 million donation to his alma mater, Michigan State, in honor of his late mother.
