The following tiebreaker format is utilized for determining the seeding in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship:

Two-Team Tie
1. Head-to-head competition.

2. Conference record of the tied teams based on winning percentage versus the highest
common opponent and proceeding down to the lowest common opponent, if necessary, until
one team gains an advantage.

a. All ties are broken in descending order.
b. When arriving at another pair of tied teams, use each team’s record against the tied teams
as a group. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning
percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or
.000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

3. Coin toss.

Three or More-Team Tie

1. Head-to-head competition.

a. Use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than performance
against individual teams. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher
winning percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of
1.000 or .000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

2. If the above results in two teams remaining, the two-team tiebreaker is used.

3. If more than two teams still remain, use the Conference record of the tied teams based on
winning percentage versus the highest common opponent and proceeding down to the
lowest common opponent, if necessary, until one team gains an advantage.

a. All ties are broken in descending order.
b. When arriving at another pair of tied teams, use each team’s record against the tied teams
as a group. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning
percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or .000,
the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

4. Draw lots.

NOTE: All ties will be broken in descending order. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than the performance against individual teams. Once ties are broken, they remain broken throughout the tie-breaker process.

Our reward for getting a 3-seed would be to play VCU in our first game? The team that waxed us by 20?

If the A10 tournament started today, yup! Good news is it does not start today and VCU will play Duq and Richmond to help that out.

Warren Nolan's predictions from NET/RPI say...
1. UD 0
2. URI 4
2. Bona 4 (Lose TB)
4. Rich 5
5. VCU 6
6. SLU 7
6. DUQ 7 (Lose TB)
8. DC 9
9. Mason 12 (Win 2nd TB via win over VCU)
9. GW 12 (Lose TB)
11. LAS 13
12. UMass 14
13. Fordham 15
14. SJU 18

BTW, this kind of regular season is what we need to have in order to be considered a big boy: Eight good teams and six teams that just can't buy a conference win vs the top.

The top 8 are 42-3 against the bottom six. (GMU over VCU, GW over DC, and UMass over DUQ)

Our big problem is that only Dayton is counting as a good win; URI/VCU are bubble teams so their games against each other are like elimination games; and wins over Bona/SLU/RICH/DC don't help and losses hurt.

If Davidson and Bonaventure didn't have terrible OOC, we we could be looking at 4 or 5 bids, because then wins over them by VCU, URI, RICH, SLU would move them INTO the conversation.

Looking at post #1...
Why does Davidson have to play St. Joe again but St. Joe doesn't have to play them? Davidson has the only 19 game schedule?

Long time no post, but I think this piece of anecdotal information is incorrect:

"Fordham and St Joes have not played. SJU has better win (Davidson vs GW)"

The A10 tie breakers do not talk about "better win". They both lost to Dayton, so the question would be either URI or Bonnies record. Fordham hasn't played URI (but should probably lose), so 0-1 versus 0-2 gives the nod to Fordham (eventually.) Currently, though, Fordham is 0-2 versus Bonnies, while Joes are 0-1, therefore, Joes are #13, not because of Davidson win. And before someone argues that Bonnies and Richmond are both 10-4, so compare both, you can't. Teams are seeded from #1 to #14, so when you get to the bottom, the comparisons are by seed, not by record. We messed that up a few years ago.

Is it correct to say, If SBU, URI & UR end with identical records and URI ends 0-2 vs UD that they get the 4 seed? All three will be 1-1 vs each other.

Gormin, you are correct. I didnt give much thought to them since they will be playing and will settle it themselves. We all know they are finishing 13 or 14.

urmite, I believe that is correct and that is a scenario I am hoping for.

Yes, I think we can reach a consensus and vote URI as the 4...
