The following tiebreaker format is utilized for determining the seeding in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship:

Two-Team Tie
1. Head-to-head competition.

2. Conference record of the tied teams based on winning percentage versus the highest
common opponent and proceeding down to the lowest common opponent, if necessary, until
one team gains an advantage.

a. All ties are broken in descending order.
b. When arriving at another pair of tied teams, use each team’s record against the tied teams
as a group. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning
percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or
.000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

3. Coin toss.

Updated through 2/8
Three or More-Team Tie

1. Head-to-head competition.

a. Use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than performance
against individual teams. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher
winning percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of
1.000 or .000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

2. If the above results in two teams remaining, the two-team tiebreaker is used.

3. If more than two teams still remain, use the Conference record of the tied teams based on
winning percentage versus the highest common opponent and proceeding down to the
lowest common opponent, if necessary, until one team gains an advantage.

Is that correct?
4 games Thursday and rest Friday? I thought it was rest Thursday and 4 games Friday? Based on everyone saying that the rest day hurt the Top 4 a lot.

Its all about TV. They had to start the tournament a day earlier and they didnt want to lose the CBS Sunday slot for the title game. I feel like there still has to be a better way

Why did they have to start it a day earlier? Couldn’t the opening rounds start on Wednesday?

Edit: also, I just saw you have game 8 at 11:30 pm. I got worried for a minute that I might have to stay awake and capable to attend that.

They probably had to start Tuesday to accommodate other conferences that will get broadcast on Friday. I don't think the 12th best conference in the nation is in the driver's seat anymore. Quite frankly I'm shocked they broadcast more than our Quarters and wouldn't be surprised to see some streaming-only platform possibly through the semis in the next negotiation go-round if we don't collectively pick it up.

Still doesn’t explain to me why they need to start earlier- they have been running a 5 day tournament, Weds-Sun since 2014. The only change this year is 1 additional pillow fight game.

Given the pillow fight is ESPN+ anyway, and the quarters are USA network it’s hard to imagine there is significant enough interference with other games forcing the schedule change . Unless Fridays on USA is the new Sunday on HBO, and there’s original programming the network doesn’t want to part with, it’s hard to figure. What really changes as far as other games are concerned? I don’t think USA is broadcasting any other live sports aside from A10 basketball, and CBSSN/CBS are still allotting 3 prime slots Saturday and Sunday to the semis and final.

Good points. Who knows. Does anyone actually watch USA Network unless forced to? With the NCAA TV rotation being CBS, TNT, TBS, and Tru, it would be great if CBS decided to get involved in putting the conference tournaments on those channels and not farm out the EPSN+ and USA rounds.

ETA: of course maybe the "farming out" is controlled moreso by the conference. Whatever they need to do to get back to a 5 day tournament they should do.

Glancing at their schedule this week, super fans of Law and Order SVU/the SUV love USA network. Aside from that premier league fans, Todd Chrisley apologists and 90s action movie buffs seem to round out their viewers.

Agreed on your last point. USA network broadcasting your conference tourney feels like it matches the trajectory of the league. Channel flippers can see it on their guide, and at a bar you don’t have to sheepishly ask if they pay for ESPN+. Aside from that, it’s got a small time feel that’s only a marginal improvement over streaming.

USA Network is a national channel … right?

Stupid unnecessary shots at USA Network.

Get a clue

It's a national network included in every cable package there is. It has replaced NBC Sports Network and has NBC's equipment & resources. Hockey, Soccer, WWE, and now A10 basketball, among other conferences.

Much better to be on USA than being on ESPN 8, 9, or 10

Also, I agree. USA Network is branching out with its sports coverage, and it’s definitely better to be there than lost in the ESPN+ ocean.
