Before tonight, I saw no sign that the Nets could compete with anyone if they shot poorly.

Tonight they shut down an excellent offensive team, didn't shoot very well, and won without much stress at all.

The only thing that concerns me is that there won't be many four day gaps for the older players to rest. I hope that wasn't too much of a factor.

True... they came back quickly after falling behind in the first and controlled the rest of the game pretty much. Very good timeouts by Frank too whenever Wiz got too close.

but i am not convinced for l.frank, he let our starter play too much, and still bad stats.
The Nets had four days off and don't play tomorrow. Why would Frank limit the minutes of his best players in a game they need to win before they head on a road trip?

Indiana and Houston were challenging opponents who were still feeling their way, but Washington already looks like a near-finished product. If the Nets believe their defense took a significant step Tuesday night, they may be convinced otherwise after the Wiz visit Saturday night.
From Thursday's blog entry. He called this the "varsity game".

That's why I'm so happy with this win. Something important was accomplished.

Stars in the NBA play 35 minutes. You want our best players sitting for more than 13 minutes each every game?

The best way to get those guys rest is to blow somebody out.

I am quite encouraged by this game as well. The main thing that surprised me was that the team can indeed play defense. Defense has been the biggest liability so far, in my opinion. And tonight, they were able to able to limit (as shutting down is a very strong term) a very high scoring team to I think its lowest output so far. If the team continues to play the kind of defense it showed tonight, it could be very promising. Another thing that made the victory amazing is that the shooting percentage of the Nets was remarkably low. The big 3 shot horribly from the field and yet, the team won. Furthermore, the bench seems to improve as each game goes. Particularly McInnis, Zoran, & Padgett.

It would be nice to look forward to games being played by the Nets with the kind of defense they showed tonight, a much better shooting percentage from the starters/bench, and bench contribution. It shows great promise.

Good win for the Nets! Go Nets!

35 minutes is ok, but it is just a line. Most season game that big three played over 40 minutes, it's very usual. Did you remember that our starter played so long against the sixers withou AI and CW a preseason game, a ugly win?

Why didn't Frank play Padgett until the 4th? After 2 straight great performances coming off the bench, Frank finally lets him play after Curly fouls out which is unexcusable. Padgett deserves atleast 15 minutes a game. He looked like the old Veal out there today diving for those loose balls.

Actually, I started this thread because I was happy the Nets won and I saw a lot of threads complaining about stuff.

So what happened? People used it to complain some more.

Everyone said all offseason and training camp that the Nets needed to work on their rebounding and defense. All I have to say is...
Yep. Nets outrebounded them and played great defense.

Progress was made!

Yes! I really think we should count these small blessings. Instead of arguing who was better in the game, etc etc, I really wish we could somehow just celebrate the victory and be happy!

Go Nets! You just did, my friend!

Now let's hope they can continue improving and they win some of these road games.

Frank is in a no-win situation. If he plays the starters too much, that's a problem, and if he gives them some rest and the game gets closer, that's is still a problem, it seems, after reading through the game thread last night. Anytime the opposition makes a run while 2 of the big 3 are on the bench, Frank gets criticized, but if as fans we know that it would be better if Kidd played less minutes, then you can bet that Frank knows that too.
