Don't take this to mean we're quitting on the Jets' season, lest we risk stinging criticism from the Panthers' Ken Lucas, but it's a good time to take a dignified step away from the current mess and look ahead to next April - to what could be the most eagerly awaited draft in Jets history.

Is there an offensive savior for the Jets in the '06 draft - aka the Matt Leinart/Reggie Bush sweepstakes? The early indications are that, if they're not in position to select Leinart or Bush, the Jets could be looking at a new widebody for their offensive line.

Leinart, QB, Southern Cal. The Jets aren't sure if Chad Pennington (shoulder) will ever be the same, so they'd be hard-pressed to bypass the bluest of the blue chips. The Texans, Packers and 49ers won't be in the quarterback market, so that could add to the drama at the top.
