James *NOT* coming back deal with it

Hey guys I'll end the speculation for you. Mike "me first" James will not be back in Toronto next year unless he wants to play for 4.5 mill. (which he wont).

One of the first things Colangelo did when he got to TO was get chummy with the media types (esp. ink) so they could have reciprocal relationship (unlike Babs who did not know how to use the media as an allly).

Anyhow task [one] for the ink stained wretches at the globe/star/sun is to soften the TO faithful up for the non-return of James. Much like Danny Ainge did in Boston when he was trying to move Paul Pierce's contract last summer after drafting Green.

Bottom line here between the resigning of Barret and the certain return of pass-first calderone is we have seen the best of Mike James and to be honest he is hampering the long term development of Franchise players Chris Bosh and Charlie V.

BC has always had Good passing PG's (kidd Nash Kevin Johnson) Mike James does not come close to fitting that mold. END OF STORY.

Never thought of it like that before. Nice post.
it's funny how, wen babcock was around if he didnt sign mike james, we'd all be bashing him

now that BC is here, we'd rather he not sign him. lol. i guess he's got the 'credibility' factor attached to his name

it's true - but then can anyone ever see BC drafting Hoffa... we are talking about a guy who drafted Shawn Marion, steve nash and Amare Stoudamire.
I agree with you charlz.

From the comments I have seen from James, from which I am not impressed by, and the recent move to sign Barret as well as Colangelo's comments, I don't see James coming back.

However, where most fans might be upset, if James is really anything like he's been sounding off for the past few weeks, then I don't want him to be a part of this franchise at all.

Is it just me or has James been sounding a lot like Rafer for the past few weeks?
if that's what we want to believe, then fine. but let's not make it out to be 'true'- it's far more of an opinion than true at this stage in the game.

i don't know how to read the barrett signing myself. part of me thinks that since andre was bryan's first move (as a 10-day), he'd also be more likely to keep him for that reason alone- "newGMitis", if you will, move for the sake of a move, to stamp the team, etc. but you can't help but see barrett as an inconsequential contributor, so i don't know what kind of purpose it would really serve on that level.

another part of me is thinking that it could be his first move in the mike james chess match. after all, if you think about it like that, the timing of this transaction seems awfully suspicious.

all speculation aside, this is already not the way i thought our roster would look next year. we don't have the specifics of the barrett deal yet, that's true, but it's sounding very much like a guaranteed season for 06-07. don't know what that means. and if it's true, we certainly won't have mike and jose and roko and andre and darrick together next year. so if andre's been given a spot, who's on the hook? maybe that is indeed an indication that mike is on the way out and/or roko won't be getting buyout $$$ and/or darrick's days in toronto are numbered (what would that mean with respect to our summer plans) and/or something else.

but regardless, i sincerely doubt that bryan believes whatever he's saying/implying through the media at the moment- at least in terms of the likelihood that mike'll re-sign. i'm convinced that's part of the plan, he's just playing the game, and whether mike does or does not return has not been decided yet. bryan's public opinion on the subject right now should fall on deaf ears, imo.

peace

LOL. So true!!!

Its good this is happening before the raptors offered him a huge deal. If the raps would have traded james at the deadline everyone would have been devestated, but in retrospect that would have been the best thing to do as he still had some value then.
I heard something on the HOOPS show last night that convinced me that MJ is not coming back next year.

It wasn't MJ's rant (he was on the show) about how he wants to be one of the top stars in the nba (yes, he said that). It was Jack Armstrong saying that if MJ opts out of his deal he will NOT be a Bird exemption player for the Raps.

That means we have to sign him from our available cap space. We can't go over the cap to sign him like we did MoP. So, assuming we sign a starting C we won't have enough cap room to give MJ more than 3 mill or so. Which means he is gone.

MJ also said the BCol has not even talked to him since he took over. Very weird.

We had old man Embry saying that signing MJ was a priority and now BCol doesn't even talk to the guy.

Bosh has hardly talked To BCol either.

Hope this isn't true.

I hope it is. Business can be done in the summer. Right now Bryan should have his hands full scouting both draftees and other NBA players he might like to bring in.

As for James not being an RFA, I'm surprised. I thought he was. In that case he'll opt out ASAP and there won't be a cap hold on him, which could help us if we're in a race to sign someone before somebody else does.

I think it really increases the odds James isn't re-signed.
I thought it was pretty clear to most of us that MJ is not a BC point guard and that he is not into overpaying.

We have all been taking about the PG's that fit the BC vision. Such talk to me says most of us already were thinking this was likely.
^ But that's not to say he isn't the kind of scoring guard Colangelo likes, re: Eddie House.
I am sure BC would not mind James as a role player, combo guard in the 8 man rotation. Is $4.5M that unreasonable for a good bench player?

If that's the price tag, BC would be a fool not to re-sign James.

For Eddie House Money. 900k. Even Raja Bell was a 4.25 mill in the 1st year. James is not looking for that.

Probably, but there are other priorities.
Eddie House is a scorer but he's not anywhere NEAR as selfish as Mike James is.
