Wizards' All-Star Jamison returns to practice

April 4, 2005 wire reports

WASHINGTON -- Antawn Jamison returned to practice for the Washington Wizards on Monday and could play in Tuesday's game against the Boston Celtics.

The All-Star forward has missed 11 straight games and 12 of the last 14 with tendinitis in his right knee. The injury ended the NBA's longest active consecutive-games streak at 386.

"I am able to run up and down the court and jump a little bit," Jamison said. "That's the most important thing. I just want to make sure I do not have any setbacks."

Jamison is averaging 19.6 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds for the Wizards, who are trying to secure home court advantage in what would be their first playoff berth since 1997. Guards Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes have led the team in Jamison's absence.

Coach Eddie Jordan said Jamison will start if available to play.

Jamison's return is timely because Hughes is nursing a sprained elbow that limited him in Sunday's loss. Hughes said the elbow felt worse after practice Monday.
