After taking a little while to learn the offense and get comfortable with his new team, Jeff McInnis has looked tremendous the last couple of games. Not only has his shooting improved, but he seems to be running the offense extremely efficiently. Getting past his defender and drawing a double team has been a common occurence when the ball is in Jeff's hands, which usually ends with him kicking it to an open teammate or creating his own shot. He brings a completely different look to the PG position than J. Kidd, and I think he will prove to be invaluable as the season progresses. Also, he seems to be hustling on the defensive end and really harassing his man. Hopefully he keeps that up.

On the Njnets.com poll in the off-season where it asked who was the Nets most important offseason pickup, I constantly voted for Marc Jackson, because of our obvious need for big men. I was wrong.

He has been doing better the past few games.

Although last night I've noticed a few things...he passes up a lot of open shots (one in particular, he had a fairly wide open three, didn't do it...moved in like 2 feet, didn't do it, and tried to pass it to someone who was double covered under the hoop)...and sometimes he looks like he tries to do a little too much. Like he'll dribble it around too much.

But like I said, he has been getting better/more comfortable. Hopefully he'll keep improving.

He's definitely huge for us. He could be starting on a lot of teams. We're lucky to have him backing Kidd up. Seems to always be hustling and moving while he's out there, creating things and getting the open shot.
Wonder how Vaughn feels about it. He's pretty far back on the bench now. Planinic is coming in instead I think.

I still think Jackson was just the most important, that's different than being the most productive.

I have a feeling like he's not used to passing the ball yet and he causes some turnovers adjusting to that. But Kidd takes risks all the time and I don't care if he turns it over. So Jeff is looking pretty good, but we still need big men, as always.

This sums it up.

What?

I never said I wanted McInnis to fail, just that I expected him to. I also said several times that I'm a fan of his from his day with the Clippers.

What ever happened to reading comprehension?

I didn't say I'm eating crow yet, just that I have no problem eating crow if he does prove me wrong.

Remember McInnis missed a lot of preseason with that bad back. As for Vaughn, I would be surprised if he is a Net by season's end. He looks forlorn and I think it is possible in the not too distant future for him and Wright to switch sides on the inactive/active list.

Wouldn't the law of averages tell you that one of Rod Thorn's gambles would actually work?

He was like 0-67.

We are actually lucky McInnis had that baggage or he would never have come to a team with Jason Kidd.

You're absolutely right.

Jeff has been hitting some more of his shots, I'll give him that, but he is still learning this offense.

He still pounds the dribble and wastes time on the clock. As someone mentioned before, he still passes up wide open shots, dribbles two steps closer to the basket, lets the defense converge, and then either loses the ball or makes a bad pass out. Remember, when he makes bad passes and the ball goes off of Carter or Jefferson's fingertips, Carter and Jefferson are credited with the turnover, not McInnis. However, it's not Carter or Jefferson's fault that McInnis got himself into that predicament.

Besides that, his defense is still questionable. He has improved from horrible to questionable, though. I can see that he does give effort on the defensive end, and that effort is there 85% of the time, far more than I can say for Vince Carter. Even if McInnis is not able to shut down the opponent's quick guards, at least he's trying.

Bottom Line: I said I'd give him until mid-December and I'm stickin' to it. I want to see 2 things:

1) Continued effort on the defensive end, not letting quick guards cross him up or run him off on picks. FIGHT THROUGH THE PICKS!

2) Stop waiting for something to develop while pounding the dribble at the top of the key...if your teamates aren't moving, then call for a pick and make something happen.

If he doesn't defend 100% by mid December, put Vaughn out there and trade McInnis for a big man.

I am not too familiar with the game of McInnis, so I dont want to make any "strong judgements" or "generalizations" because I am not in the right position to do so. And I think that its also too early to make them right now, as its only been 8 games. But in the few games that I have watched, it seems that indeed, he really takes a lot of time dribbling the ball and setting up the play. And a friend of mine said (after seeing a few games) that he did have a few open shots/opportunities which he could have taken, but he opted not to. However, I also believe that he has improved over the past few games and has contributed well to the team. Well, as I've said, these are just based on the little I've watched so I cant say I can make statements with conviction or certainty.

Whatever it is, I only hope that he continues to improve on his game so he can help the team. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm006YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/7/7_4_13.gif' alt='Cheers' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm006YYUS' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_1_106.gif' alt='Basketball 7' border=0></a>
