Jay Williams sounds awfully confident when he's giving interviews but do you think he's over confident? I hope he doesn't think that he has all the answers already.

He has so much to learn and right now the Bulls don't have another player to teach him the position. I think they need a veteran like Popeye Jones or Scott Williams to help the big men but they also desperately need Travis Best.

What do you think?

I am not a big believer in the effectiveness of one player teaching another. A possible exception would be a player at the very end of his career (which Best is not) who sacrifices his own development as a player for that of a young player.

In short, Travis Best will not likely teach JWill anything about playing PG in the NBA.

i remember seeing an article (possibly two) in which Travis Best stated he was not going to resign if the Bulls drafted Jay Williams.

the only possibility now of bringing Travis back to the team, is also going to involve shipping out Crawford.

Travis didn't seem interested in playing a few spot minutes behind two developing guards

further, there are probably half a dozen teams that could use his services, probably even as a starter, but most definitly for 20-30 mpg. and if I were Travis, that's what I'd be after.

I think Jay Williams does come across as confident and maybe a bit cocky. But I believe that helps his game and doesn't hurt it. I mean he's been the best basketball player in college basketball for 2 seasons, already played the NBA's top PGs (Kidd and Payton two summers ago at Team USA scrimmages) and done well, and is embracing Chicago: the Bulls, its fans, and the town itself.

Ideally a veteran like Ollie would be a nice fit.. someone who is willing to step aside and be a backup. Best just doesn't like splitting time w/ another PG (as he had to do in Indiana w/ Tinsley and in Chicago w/ Crawford).

Williams is a mature kid, and he will do fine. Having a mentor or not, this kid is ready to succeed. I agree that a Popeye Jones or Scott Williams would be nice fit. We need some depth at the PF/C positions and an old vet who can play a little D and rebound.

I think our best option with t.best would be a sign and trade if that is possible.

As for Jwill, I don't think he is overconfident. He just has that 'i'm gonna break your ankles and there's nothing you can do about it' type swagger. All the superstars have it. They need it. I say its a good sign.

Well I for one am HAPPY that Jay comes across as either confident or cocky. It is something that was SORELY needed ever since #23 left the Bulls.

Here's a Jay William's quote:

"I want this team to be competitive. We should accept nothing less than success."

I haven't heard NO one on this team (with the exception of Jalen Rose) who brings that type of swagger to the Bulls. Now granted...he's only a rookie....but MJ carried that same swagger also.

I WANT Jay's confidence/cockiness to rub off of our young team. I think that Williams' presence will rub off on guys like Crawford, Chandler, Curry and Fizer.

And EVEN if Jay starts the season off (briefly) coming off the bench...he will make the second unit a MUCH MORE potent team. He's gonna make guys like Robinson and Fizer a whole lot better.

Put me down for 40 wins Bulls fans. I'm THAT confident that the Bulls are gonna do very well.
