A+ Los Angeles Clippers
Los Angeles Clippers
Ralph Lawler, Michael Smith

Lawler has been calling Clippers games since 1978, and, as you'd expect, he has a pretty healthy sense of humor. His voice, the way he puts together a play-by-play telecast and the tone he chooses to celebrate and/or castigate -- these are the aural equivalents of life as a Los Angeles Clipper. Lawler doesn't waste his time breathlessly bantering about the endless promise that young Clipper after Clipper has shown over the last 28 years. Rather, he manages to distill the lifeblood of Los Angeles' "other" basketball franchise into something worth listening to. Acting as an oral historian of sorts, Lawler captures the absurdities, the fits of brilliance, the disappointments and perpetual bits of frustration that always co-exist alongside the promise of another (better) game to come, another (higher) draft pick to use and another chance at getting it right. This year's Clippers team has gotten it right, and Lawler -- as you'd also expect -- has risen to the occasion.

 To see Lawler finally getting respect. I'm surprised they didn't put how Lawler seems to just embaress Smith at least once a game.

EDIT: Had wrong link before, sorry.

Glad someone is noticeing them because they really are the best tandem out there. I have leauge pass and some announcers are so bad that you about fall asleep.
hahahah

yeah they are great

man the Lakers new announcer guy...geesh, i hardly watch Laker games at all anymore

cuz he is soooooooooooo boringand its hard to stay awake......

as far as Ralph and Mike, even when the Clippers are losing they make it fun to watch hahahah

and man they make me laugh atleast a couple times a day, the other day when Ralph was saying

that he got a ticket for not having a front license plate hahahahah

that whole sequence was funny hahahah

i think Ralph and anybody would do great, but for now Ralph and Mike are a great duo

whos better?????as far as aduo.....

people will say Marv Albert...but him and who else????and eh...hes not all that...

i think people are just biased cuz he did the Jordan games and Knicks games hahah

Yes I do enjoy them even when the clippers are loosing

One thing that I really like is the phrases that he says like

oh me oh my
Bingo
Lawlers Law

and other ones which I cannot remember right now because my brain just went blank.

And yes the Lakers anounces really suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they just do not make the game exiting at all.

Playoffs here we come

Go Clippers Go

They have real good chemistry between them. They joke around and are comical. Nice to see that they got some recognition for it.
Now that Chick Hearn is gone, Lawler is definitely the man when it comes to announcing, and that includes other sports as well. It's really great to see that he's been recognized for his stellar work.
Fasten your seatbelts!

The funny thing is a few years ago while at Staples, I looked and yes, Ralph did have seat belts on his seat!

It's all Ralph- he's great with just about anyone. I especially liked him with Bill Walton. The deadpan comedy was off the charts.

Ralph and Mike are great but Walton is the worst announcer in the league. Does this guy even watch basketball? I will always remember this memorable quote from Walton,"Where would the Clippers be without Mike Olowokandi?" I wasnt sure if he was serious or not but I do remember him saying it more than once.
haha walton is great, you either love him or hate him though, but his sense of humor should not be mistaken with stupidity.

but good for ralph & mike to get some love, i have league pass too and i have to say...the knicks & lakers definitely have the worst duo. joel meyers voice is absolutely intolerable. i seriously put the games on mute whenever i watch that team. the knicks are bad because their broadcasters rotate so often, there's no consistency. fans don't develop a bond.

but ralph & mike are hands down the best commentator group i've ever heard. from mike smith's worrying, from ralph always referring to mike smith as...mike smith to "its the LAW" and "BINGO", I feel like I get great entertainment from seeing the clippers play & hearing ralph & mike work the game!
the miami play by play guy is awful as well, i almost forgot about him. the worst out there.

hhahhahahhaha YES!!! i remember him saying that!!!! hahahah

whenever he would seldom do ANYTHING , ahhahaha a hook or something

hahahahahaDAMN THATs funny i forgot about that hahahaha

he did say it alot, i think sometimes he was serious others sarcastic....and i liked him next to Ralph too

but i think anyone next to Ralph is good but Ralph and Mike are great :)

Walton bad mouthed the Clippers in some game i forgot, he is now on my hated list ! :curse:

and i remember even recently he said

"getting rid of Michael Olowokandi was the best move in Clippers franchise history"

I liked last time when Mike Smith said Quinton Ross was one of the best players in the game.

It got Ralph forcing him to compare him to Tracey McGrady and Kobe lol.
walton on the ESPN broadcast said that cassell was a great defender.
You can't take Walton seriously. "Deadpan" humour as I said before. Walton knows more about basketball than he lets on. He expects the audience to know better, and he doesn't take things too seriously.
Great to see the Clips announcing tandem get some props. As a Warriors fan, good to see Fitzgerald and Barnett get props, too, but I don't know if there's a better play-by-play guy in the NBA than Ralph Lawler.

And I still miss Walton as Lawler's right hand man on Clippers broadcasts. Since moving to ESPN, he's toned down his act. Walton's use of the aforementioned 'deadpan' humor and superlatives cracked me up.

Hope Lawler is around for a long, long time. BINGO!
Smith is horrible... he isn't really funny and his knowledge is lacking for what should be an expert. When you listen to most commentators they either have a great personality or the intelligence of a coach, he has neither and would be exposed without Ralph's brillance.

I loved Walton with Ralph, Walton used to be a big "where would the Clippers be without Sean Rooks?" guy. I also liked how everything would be the "biggest upset in Western Civilization!" and so on.
Are you kidding me. Smith is better, has more knowledge than Stu and that "other guy" who is suppose to be "announcing" laker games.

Mike Smith does know the game/players games and is not a raging homer. Its funny how you can never understand what STu is saying during laker games.. I think its cause he's got Kobes **** in his mouth.

Walton is amusing for a little while then he just gets old. He doesnt add anything to a broadcast at that point.
I think it's funny that because I have a Laker avatar, you had to bring them up even though they had nothing to do with it. It's like if I say Ewing is a mediocre back up guard you point out how horrible Sasha is. Grow up or lose the fixitation.

I laugh when Smith forgets simple things like what position a certain player was drafted or what team he used to play for in 98.

Joel Meyers needs to go back to announcing pool again. His voice puts me to sleep.

No offense but I fall asleep when I listen to Joel Meyers and Stu Lantz. They bore me to death. The Lakers announcing team will never be the same. You cant replace a legend like CHick Hearn. As for Mike Smith I think he is hilarious. Im so damn glad that we dont have the Big Redhead anymore.
