Maine picked up a much needed win today over Florida Gulf Coast 84-78 in Orono. The road weary Black Bears move to 3-1 at home after 3 straight terrible performances on the road. Today was the Justin Edwards show, as he sliced and diced the boys from Fort Myers for 27 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Edwards was the best player on the floor by a wide margin. The Black Bears struggled with turnovers again, 20 all totaled with 8 by point guard Xavier Pollard. Maine was able to get easy buckets in transition throughout the game and shot 50% from the field and 42% from distance. Maine was plus 3 on the boards and shot 82% from the line, which proved to be the difference in this one. Maine received 21 big ones from Ali Fraser and 11 from Jon Mesghna. FGCU was ice cold from deep, but I'll credit Maine for doing a nice job contesting shots throughout. For those that aren't aware, FGCU is 8-4 on the season with a win against Miami to their credit. They were the runner up in the Atlantic Sun conference last season, losing to Belmont in the conference title game.
