If the Nuggets make the playoffs and list the games that got them there, it's hard to imagine many counting ahead of their 107-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday afternoon at the American Airlines Center.

Without injured shooting guard Voshon Lenard, Denver erased a 16-point halftime deficit and a 20-point gap midway through the third quarter against a team that was 20-3 at home. During a 1:13 span late in the third, Carmelo Anthony picked up his third and fourth fouls and had to sit.

That's hardly the perfect setup for a road victory. But led by point guard Andre Miller and reserve swingman Rodney White, the Nuggets (28-21) hit 15-of-20 third-quarter shots and went 10-for-18 in the fourth to steal the game.

Believe it or not, rumor is that the Knicks could've had Rodney for Doleac and two second rounders. Why they didn't pull the trigger I'm not sure, but Rodney is a starting-quality talent.

One thing is for sure: he can score. He's added consistent three point range to an already decent mid-range shot. He can drive to the hole as well, despite the fact that his dribbling could be greatly improved. If he got starter minutes, there's no reason he could drop 15 plus a night.

Now, it's up to Rodney whether he wants to be a good scorer and nothing more or one of the better small forwards in the league. at 6-9 230, he's a load in the post but is surprisingly quick. If he works on his dribbling, I think he could average in the 20 ppg range. Does he have the other qualities to become a really good player? Yes, but he doesn't always use them. Rodney has good court vision but doesn't always use his brain. Rodney could pull in eight boards a game but doesn't always put in the work. Rodney could be a good (not great) defender but doesn't always give it his best.

So if and when Rodney gets starter minutes (it obviously won't be with the Nuggets) it will be on him to determine his future. But anyone who thinks this guy is a scrub is horribly mistaken. There's no reason why he can't put up 20, 7, and 3 every night at a 43-45% clip, but that's up to his will and desire.
