Preston Murphy is caught up in this. That name is familiar. Can anyone remind me whose staff he may have been on?
while at Creighton, no connection or mention of URI at all. nice try though

If you sweep dirt under the rug in one room, I'd place my bet that you do something similar in others, too.

You aren’t wrong. Ask anyone in the league.

H. Martin? E. Matthews? Nah... they just picked URI out of the goodness of their collective heart. Those P5s isolated them as the ones they WOULDN’T bribe. No coincidence that P. Murphy and Pageant Mom made it rain.

Paging K. Dambrot...

things like this usually come from the head coach, not an assistant doing it on his own. you think Preston has 100k and a lucrative job to give a recruit on his own?

What 4 star players has Dambrot landed? None of his freshmen were offered by P5 schools. The other guys are all transfers. How did Bona get Adams? Andrew Nicholson? Bob Lanier even? Hmmmmm...

Well Adams re-opened recruiting when Jacksonville coach left. Andrew was raw and had no similar D1 offers at the time and TO is close enough to WNY. Lanier everyone knows wanted to stay close to Buffalo.

Anyone else?

Which begs the question...
Why are you still harping on Hurley as if it's Ram fans fault? Who cares he's gone so is the assistant mentioned. We get it you hate Hurley. You aren't alone. Old news.
I think it's important to give yet more examples of why college coaches shouldn't be deified to any extent.

Also, it's in the news? There are two A10 assistant coaches, one current and one former, who have been swept up in a far reaching FBI probe where they have been alleged to do the exact kinds of things we all hate.

But yes, you're right that I don't like Hurley. Either he will cheat and lose or bring UConn back to their historical place as nationally competitive cheaters. That really isn't my impetus here.

Also, URI fans, or at least one in particular, bitched about their not being enough discussion of their program on here. A reason to has been presented.

Who's the current assistant? I have to be honest I'm not following it. Not because I don't care it's because I care too much probably. I fully expect nothing to come of all this, except a lot of aggravation for the likes of all of us, while knowing we're just beating our heads against a brick wall wishing everything was fair.

Former Miami assistant Jamal Brunt will be in his first season at VCU. He coached for years at Richmond before going to Miami and before that he played for Rhoades at Randolph Macon. Also of note in the FBI news, Will Wade is called out along with Texas. Shaka was not mentioned but could be former assistant Mike Morrell who is now at UNC-Asheville. I do remember that Bruce Bowen was Shaka's first offer after leaving VCU.

That is the six degrees of VCU. Anyone else want to share? Ha!

La Salle's Kenny Johnson. He was hired in May after having been fired at Louisville which is where the alleged impropriety is to have occurred.

I have close friends in the industry who have witnessed that type of thing happen more than once. To name names (again), the Buffalo coaches were seen doing the cash wad handoff deal with incoming freshman Jeenathan Williams on more than one occasion during his recruiting process (at different camps, etc.). Not surprisingly, Williams spurned "higher" offers and landed at UB. Something has to be done, as this stuff is absolutely rampant in a ton of programs at a variety of "levels" (and, as I liquorly asserted above, within our own league). It isn't even hidden that well in some cases, and the behavior is widely discussed within athletics programs. In most cases, schools know who's wheeling and dealing and who isn't. Usually, it comes back to individual staffs more so than institutions, but in some cases, it's a malignant mass infecting certain places' athletics culture.

Smart move. The A10/MWC would be a logical and entertaining match for a “challenge”. Long overdue.
I like it too but I bet Rhody has a sour taste in it's mouth for the MWC. Nevada scheduled a series and bailed on going to Kingston.
