Antwan hardy is transfering out of Stonybrook.

Harknell is transfering out of Maine.

Good to see Maine free up some scholarship money. I wonder who will take his place?
Isbal: Where is Hardy going and what happened? Is this a case of Pikiell getting rid of a guy he didn't like or something else?

Either way, Hardy's leaving has to be viewed as a pretty big loss for Stony Brook, as he was the fourth leading scorer on the team last year, after Mitchell, Popoko, and Santiago (who's graduating).

It's gotta be playing time and Pikiell bringing in his own guys. You have Ricky Lucas (GW transfer eligible this year) who should play 30+ this year and possibly be 1st team AE this year.

By the way Drew Davison on BingU is also transfering to a div 2 school.

If this is the case, then Bing has three scholarships now open...
Harknell was gonna be pretty superfluous next year. Depth in the post is not an issue in Orono. I'll be interested to see where he lands though. All indications are he's a pretty good guy. Could probably get significant minutes in the NEC.
Fithian leaving Binghamton

Jordan Fithian leaving Binghamton and moving back to Kansas to play at D-II Emporia State:

Fithian leaving Binghamton

Now at this late date Binghamton had four scholarships to give!!! Wonder what will happen from here???
After reading the article I have to wonder how hard is it to sign a big in the late signing period? Since Walker wants to go bigger I wonder if he will be able to reach his goal for next season. I know bing already has one 6'8 player. Any idea where he would look, and correct me if I am wrong but isn't the talent level a little less during the late signing period? compared to the early sp? And there is more competition from the Big Schools to find players to fill there holes?
Alot of JC coaches have their players wait to the late signing period before committing. So there may be a few out there.

Bigs at our level are hard to get at anytime but I would imagine they're fewer available during the late period. Most of the talented HS Bigs who could step in and play right away at our level are gone by now.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky then good!!!! Of course if your good and lucky that's awesome.
Slightly off the topic of transfers, but I was glancing over Hartford's roster today and I noticed two players I hadn't seen there previously: Kevin Wentworth, a freshman guard from Ware, MA and Dartay Belk a Soph from Hampstead NY via Herkimer CC. No info on them when you click on their names from the roster. Who are these guys?

A friend of mine went to Herkimer and knows Dartay. He actually was on the team during the AE Tourney, where she recognized him. Says he's a pretty cool kid. Says she doesn't remember him playing ball at Herk, but could be mistaken.
Fellas - let's be clear here. It was Fithian who said Walker wanted more big guys, not Walker. Later in the article, Fithian says something else that I think is more revealing of what may have been going on:

I think he wants guys who are going to spend time in the gym and not out on the street," Fithian said. "I'm a hard-worker in the gym and the weight room. I (was) probably the strongest person on the team, but I also like to have a good time. I'm in college to play basketball and to have fun and enjoy myself. That's my personality.
Read the "but" again, and I think it's pretty clear what was happening. Jordan, like another big man who recently played at Bing, was probably a little more focussed on his other extra-curricular activities than he was with basketball, and the one thing that's been pretty clear to me about Walker is that he wants kids who are serious about b-ball and willing to make it their number one priority.

My guess is that after his foot injury, Fithian got more into the social scene at Bing and lost some focus. Once the injury was healed, the coaching staff probably started pressing him to get back into a b-ball mindset, and he didn't. Thus, he decides to go back to Kansas, where he can play ball and enjoy all the spoils of being the BMOC at Emporia.

Granted, it creates a pretty big hole in Bing's line-up, as they know have to depend a lot more on Olomo and Montgomery - neither of whom have truly shown they're capable of being "go-to" guys, but, in the long run, it's probably better for the team (and for Fithian) that they parted ways now, rather than in a year or two.

Both of these guys....also 1 other and I do not remember his name.... were walk-ons to the team after the Xmas break this year. No idea if they will be on the team next year.....then again if they do not get a coach soon they will end up with 6 players next year which in turn should open up many a walk-on slot next year.

Belk is not your typical walk on (gym-rat type with not too much ability but makes up in other areas such as basketball fundementals, basketball-iq, etc), this kid can flat out jump through the roof.
A question to those who are up on NCAA rules: what impact do players who transfer out of a program have on the new graduation rate guidelines (and resulting penalities)? It was my impression that they counted against the school they were leaving. Is that not true anymore? If it is true, what impact will that have on schools who have multiple players transfer this year (or in consecutive years). My understanding was that transfers counted against you so that coaches wouldn't force kids who wouldn't graduate to transfer, thereby circumventing the graduate rate rule.
Next year could be ugly with four open spots now, i hope walker has some jucos up his sleeve
I think UB picked up on a number of the interesting points in the Fithian article.

The optimist in me says that there is another one. Fithian says "He wants to get more big guys in and doesn't have room for a 6-(foot)-6 post man.". The fact that he's transferring implies that the getting of more big guys is a done deal -- or that Walker is very content with his 3 returning big men from this season (Jaan 6-11, Olomo 6-8 and Milne 6-9) being capable of putting up big and productive minutes next season. Jaan is clearly still a work in progress while Milne and Olomo showed some great signs during the season. With that in mind, I suspect that a new big guy is effectively a done deal. Probably in the form of a JUCO transfer since they'd be more likely to contribute immediately and knock out Fithian's playing time aspirations.

As it stands, the Binghamton starting lineup for next season looks like:

Gordon
Hailey / Proctor (edited -- originally I had put Heard instead of Hailey)
Duane James
Olomo
Milne

Without a proven scorer in there, that's a lower-middle of the pack team -- but probably with more upside potential than downside.

If Davison transfers as well, does that give us 5 open scholarships? (Fithian, Davison, Heard, Schaefer Jackson, Hermenier)

It would be four since walker got mehmet sahan(not sure about spelling) a 6'8" kid from turkey

It wouldn't be Heard at the 2 spot because he graduated right? I like Milne..he impressed me from what I saw at the AE Tourney. Not much of a down in the mud low post player, but has a great little fade-away jumper type shot and seemed to be pretty athletic for a "big-man."
You're right GoDanesGo. I meant to say Hailey. I got my Binghamton H-guards mixed up momentarily (or perhaps it was my subconscious speaking and hoping for an additional year of eligibility for Andre).

BUZoo5 -- I had forgotten about Sahan. I guess he's the done deal as far as big men go. Now Al can feel free to go about his usual April business of bringing in guards.
