NBA Defensive Player of the Year??? DPOTY?

I think this years DPOTY award belongs to The Russian, Andrei Kirilenko AKA AK-47. He has over 3 bpg + 1.5 SPG. He is a great man defender as well as team defender. He is the anchor of the Jazz defense that has no strong defenders other than him.

Ben and Sheed have been great, but I couldn't put Ben in front of Sheed this year like the past few. Ben is also averaging 1bpg less than AK. He also is not as good a one-on-one defender as AK.

Gerald Wallace deserves heavy consideration as well with 2.5 spg and 2 bpg. The only reason he will prbably not win is because of his games played. Same case is for Marcus Camby.

DPOTY?

Andrei Kirilenko is not a better man defender than Ben Wallace, but I agree Wallace shouldn't get it.

I'd go with Marcus Camby or Bruce Bowen.
I don't say that he should get it,but I would think that Rasheed Wallace should be given some consideration.Ben Wallace gets a lot of attention for his defense, but overall I think Rasheed has been better this year.I would probably go with Gerald Wallace myself, but mainly from personal bias.

Look at how many games Camby played right? and let me ask a question , why people always consider bruce for the Dpoy ? he is definitely a good defender especially creates so many problem for those superstar , but look at his stats , telling notting, I could put him All Defensive first team but I would not consider him DPOY , it would be either AK47 or Wallace. Personally I wish Gerald could take it.

All Nba Defensive Team

Ben Wallace
Rashedd Wallace
Ak 47
Gerald Wallace
Bruce Bowen
How can Bowen be an option if Duncan isn't?
Ben Wallace isn't that great of a one-on-one defender(against the Shaq's, Yao's, Ilaguaskas' etc).. There aren't as many good center's in the league so that's why he looks better than he actually is.(compare the quality of guards/small forwards with centers)
This is gonna be tough year to select the DPOTY. The way I see it:

In order

Best 1-on-1 defender: Bowen, Artest, AK47, Big Ben, Camby
Best Help defender: AK47, Big Ben, Camby, Artest, Bowen

As much as I would like to choose Camby or Artest for DPOTY, I can't becuase they have both missed the most games of all the candidates.

Big Ben on the other is still a beast in defensive rebounding but his 1-on1 defense has regressed and he has a lot of help from Rasheed and Prince. But still very solid.

Bowen is probably the best lock down defender in the league but that's all he gives you on the defensive side nothing more.

Kirelinko on the other hand puts up the defensive rebounds, blocks and steals. And is a a good 1-on-1 and help defender. I even heard a commentator say that Kireleinko is telling his teamates not to foul when their man gets by them when he's near the vicinity because he will help and swat the damn thing.

So it's just between Big Ben and AK47.

My choice AK47

So true, He stares down his team mates when they foul when he is in the territory. Then says "why you foul???" lol
No option for Marion?

I think AK wins it this year.
My Vote would be to Bruce Bowen. while he isnt as big of name as the Wallace's, Artest or Kirilenko. he does go out there every night and gets the job done. his statical numbers aren't as great either, but anyone who understands basketball and sees him play will tell you he is an awesome defender.

if Bowen doesn't get it, Id like to see AK47 win it. I actually think the Award will come down to these two players. Camby, and Artest have really missed to many games to win the award. and Kirilenkos stats do put him over the Wallaces. I also think AK47 has the advantage because his team sucks so bad on defense. if the jazz go on a run here, make the playoffs, and Ak can keep his streak of 5+ blocks a game going, then I think the award will be his. if not, it will most likly go to bowen.

last 5 games he is averaging 7 blocks! get it right!
I said 5+ because I dont think he can do 7 a game.

My bad, Marion doesnt jump out to me for DPOTY, but his stats in steals and blocks are there as well as his man to man defense which is pretty good.

Zo coulda grabbed that ****, if it wasnt for shaq.
Bruce Bowen is the answer. Who cares about steals and blocks when you can completely shut down any player between 6'4 and 6'8. Hell he even shut down the 7'0 Dirk Nowitzki. He is the only defender in the league who routinely shuts down 25-35 point scorers.
Bruce Bowen.

He routinely shuts down the big stars. That wins games more than anything else.
