GAME 1 on ABC

Key Matchup

The last time the Cleveland Cavaliers made the playoffs, LeBron James was not even in high school. Kobe Bryant wasn't in grade school when the Los Angeles Lakers last missed the postseason in back-to-back years.

James has his Cavaliers in much better position for a playoff berth than Bryant's Lakers heading into this matchup between two of the league's top-three scorers.

While Bryant leads the NBA with 34.6 points per game and James is third at 30.8, it's the Lakers who face a tougher road to the postseason than the Cavaliers.

Jason Kidd has struggled to find his range recently, but the poor shooting hasn't affected him on the defensive end.

Kidd looks to help the New Jersey Nets halt a lengthy losing streak to his former team as the Dallas Mavericks visit Continental Airlines Arena.

The win over Lakers improved New Jersey to 17-3 in its last 20 games at home, but the Nets have dropped five straight to the Mavs at Continental Airlines Arena and 11 in a row overall in the series. Kidd has been a Net for all but two of those defeats.

Dallas has won three in a row and six of its last seven games, and is battling San Antonio for the top spot in the Western Conference.

The NBA's hottest team continues a tough stretch of road games when the Miami Heat visit the resurgent New York Knicks.

Miami, which has won four in a row and 14 of its last 15, is playing four road games in five days. The Knicks, meanwhile, have won two straight after the public feud between coach Larry Brown and point guard Stephon Marbury.

Brown and Marbury have claimed their verbal sparring is over. Marbury said he wanted more freedom offensively while Brown said he had already given him more freedom than any point guard he's ever coached.

Miami has beaten New York six straight times.

Nets Killing Mavs!

After holding the Blazers to 5 pts in the 4th in their last game the Nets come out of the blocks strong containing the elite Mavs to just 10 pts while they had 29 after 1 quarter of play.
Bron gambling for steals & leaving his man open as usual.

Don't under estimate the Nets. As long as Kidd is being productive, Carter is scoring, RJ is playing well, and Nenad is playing decent, they are almost impossible to beat.

Don't count your chickens. It's early and you are playing Dallas. Not Portland.
Re: Nets Killing Mavs!

Dallas is pretty banged up right now. They're not 100%.

I'm a fan of Kidd and the Nets, but I don't want to be too confident right now. The Mavs have been down on several games but have made big comebacks. Lets wait for the end of the 4th quarter before claiming this as a win. There's still the 2nd half, and if there's one team that can come back, its the Mavs.
Can't do anything about Kobe... He's just on fire... But maybe letting Odom go 5-6 and Smush Parker go 5-7 is a sign that your defense just isn't cutting it...
LeBron v.s. Kobe SHOW. 3/19

Kobe with 24 points in 21 minutes, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. (One steal being from LeBron)
LeBron with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists. (And absolutely abusing Lamar Odom)

Now this thread is to talk specifically about the one on one matchup from today. But did anyone see Kobe's fadeaway 3 ball in the cornet pocket at the end of the half, in LeBron's grill? LeBron looked like a heartbroken kid after Kobe stuck it in his face. This game has been so entertaining.
Does that shot by Kobe make him clutch now? If he misses the shot is he not clutch?

I like the fact LeBron respects Kobe's game, he should be taking notes from the old man.
