Tough matchup for Lowell to start the season at preseason #23 South Carolina. Here's hoping they can be somewhat competitive.
Binghamton should be contending for a repeat with all that they return from last year’s team. What a freshmen class that was last season—Sullivan, Haskell, Roselli, Bade. If this group continues to develop, Binghamton will be tough to beat. Will be nice having senior Kevin Gsell back, too, after missing much of last season.

I read freshmen pitcher Dan McAliney could be one to watch as well, but as we all know, hype among freshmen is always to be taken with a grain of salt.

Looking forward to catching a few games at the beautiful stadium this season.
Maine ended up taking 2 of 3 from Pitt, the offense put up 29 runs in 3 games.

NJIT took 2 of 3 from Davidson, which is a nice surprise.

Binghamton, Lowell, and Bryant all got swept, unsurprisingly. Lowell was non-competitive.

One midweek game, today, UMBC gets the season underway at Delaware.

9-0 Maine heads to 5-1 Binghamton this weekend for a series that (even this early) could decide the regular season.

UMBC is the only other team above .500 in conference play, but were swept by Maine in Maryland.

Maine takes the first 2 in the series, both by a 5-4 count. Binghamton avoids the sweep with an 18-17 (!) win on Sunday.
Unfortunately Maine's incredible hitting line-up is not matched by its anemic pitching......you'd think that 17 runs on 23 hits would you get you a win on most days in AE.🙄
Baseball tournament is set:

1. Maine
2. UMBC
3. Binghamton
4. Bryant
5. Lowell
6. NJIT

Day one, Wednesday, is single elimination: 6 vs. 3, 5 vs. 4.

Double elimination from thereon, teams are reseeded prior to day two.

Interesting format - really protects #1/2 seeds.

NEC just expanded to 6-team conference tourney this year with the addition of the affiliates from the MEAC, but the entire tourney is still double elimination with the #1/2 seeds getting a first round bye.

#1 CCSU
#2 Wagner
#3 FDU
#4 Sacred Heart
#5 LIU
#6 UMES

#5 Lowell tops Bryant and #3 Bing takes care of NJIT.

Tomorrow's action:

#1 Maine vs #5 Lowell - 11 AM
#3 Binghamton vs #2 UMBC - 3 PM

BTW - the Binghamton stadium looks great. Awesome on-campus baseball facility at this level.

Lowell just had a possible first inning grand slam that, upon lengthy discussion by the umpires, was ruled foul.

Replay was extremely inconclusive, but judging by the reactions of the Maine bullpen and right fielder, it probably was foul. Not sure how you overturn what you called originally after like a 4 minute discussion, though.

Replay and overturned calls are the norm for baseball, now for better or worse. Though I can’t imagine the AE umps have access to the angles and all that the MLB guys do to be so sure in overturning calls.

Anyways, Maine wins 10-7. Fitting margin of victory with the aforementioned grand slam being changed.
UMBC wins 7-3 against Binghamton, but they did pitch their ace.

They didn’t actually go to replay. Just huddled.

Oh wow. Yeah, that's pretty wild then.
Uphill battle for Binghamton today as they need to beat Maine twice, but all three regular season games were decided by 1 run so maybe they’ll have a chance.
Maine wins 6-1.....first trip to the NCAAs since 2011.

Congrats to the Black Bears. They've looked like the class of the AE all season
