Not many games tonight, but it does feature 5 Top 25 teams in action, including new #1 Purdue in their first game since being elevated to that spot. In fact, who would have ever thought that New Jersey would be the focal point of the college basketball world, but with Seton Hall and Rutgers, a mere 25 miles apart, both hosting top 7 opponents, here we are. I will list all the games being played tonight as it is such a short list and really, very few streaming opportunities it would appear. Tonight's TV schedule:

FS1
6:30 pm - #7 Texas @ #23 Seton Hall
8:30 pm - Monmouth @ St John's

BTN
7 pm - #1 Purdue @ Rutgers

ACCN
8 pm - Colgate @ Pittsburgh

ESPN2
9 pm - Iowa @ #17 Iowa State

Pac-12
9:30 pm - Grand Canyon @ Arizona State

Now, the entire list of non-airwave games:

6:30 pm - Bethune-Cookman @ NC State

7 pm start
Detroit @ Kent State (ESPN3)
Long Island @ Fordham (ESPN+)
Carver College @ North Carolina Central
Asbury College @ Bellarmine
Nicholls @ Mississippi Valley State
Hampton @ William & Mary

8 pm - Lindsey Wilson College @ Southern
9 pm - Merrimack @ #5 Gonzaga
9 pm - Denver @ New Mexico

Of note, Carver College, named after George Washington Carver, is at NC Central tonight and played at Georgia Southern last night. I googled them and found out they are a small Bible College on 16 acres in southwestern Atlanta with a student body that fluctuates between 30 - 60 students. It appears they only play men's and women's basketball, with the women being added in 2015-16. They are out "fundraising" for a couple of days it would appear.

15 Nov @ Kennesaw State
18 Nov @ The Citadel
20 Nov @ Gardner-Webb
22 Nov @ McNeese State
24 Nov @ University of Tennessee - Martin
3 Dec @ North Carolina A&T
5 Dec @ North Alabama
8 Dec @ Georgia Southern
9 Dec @ North Carolina Central
11 Dec @ Winthrop
15 Dec @ Presbyterian
16 Dec @ South Carolina State
28 Dec @ Jacksonville State
29 Dec @ Jacksonville University

This school exists solely to make money playing guarantee games on the road, and has basically zero other students.

Thanks for that. Man, that's quite a few games. However, I think the school exists solely to teach the bible and uses this money to keep their doors open in order to do that.

Another crazy result last night, only this was on the women's side, UConn lost at Georgia Tech, 57-44. Granted, UConn has some injury issues but they sign nothing but high school All-Americans so I can't imagine their is a talent issue. Anyway, that was their first loss to an unranked team since 2012. Crazy.

There are not many games scheduled tonight. In fact, there is only 1 game on national TV:

ACCN
8 pm - DePaul @ Louisville - this was a GAME back in the 80s

Here is the complete list of other games, minus the AE games listed in the game day thread:

5 pm - Yellowstone Christian College @ Montana (ESPN+)

7 pm start
App State @ Furman (ESPN+)
IUPUI @ Tennessee State (ESPN+)
South Carolina State vs High Point (ESPN+)
Midway @ Bellarmine (ESPN+)
Morovian @ Delaware

8 pm start
Murray State @ Memphis (ESPN+)
Loyola Chicago @ Vanderbilt (ESPN+/SEC+)
CSU Northridge @ North Dakota State (ESPN+)
Green Bay @ Kansas City

9 pm - Prairie View A&M @ Boise State
9:30 pm - Milwaukee @ Colorado

That, my friends, is the complete list of games for this Friday night. Not a whole lot to choose from.

Remember when Memphis was being touted as a potential Final Four darkhorse at the beginning of the year? Well, it's still early for them to rebound, but Murray State (not Ja Morant's Murray State) just handed them their 4th straight loss, dropping their record to 5-4. Their next 2 games are against Top 15 teams Alabama and Tennessee so there is a very good chance they drop below .500. Like I said, still plenty of time for them to right the ship, but they better get busy.

Also, something that will probably get hidden, but DePaul went on the road and won at Louisville. Man, I would be so happy if the Blue Demons become relevant in men's hoops again. I absolutely loved watching them play and was fortunate enough to meet Ray Meyer, God rest his soul. Anyway, they are now 8-1 (wins over Rutgers & now L'ville and just a 4-pt loss to Loyola Chicago) with upcoming games vs UIC & Northwestern before Big East action.

OK, on to the full slate of games today of which there are several fun matchups yet again:

Central Connecticut beats the point spread (+27) and won the 2nd half 28-24 at Providence.

Not a great game for the visitors, but give Pat Sellers and the team credit - they squeeze every ounce of effort and have built up some positives in a guarantee game.

CCSU was down 29-points (59-30) at 15:19 in the 2nd half. We lose by just 15. Gutty effort!

CCSU is 2-8 overall, but is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games. Central was 1-3 ATS in their first 4 games.

Some pretty remarkable scores from yesterday:

  • Kansas putting the smackdown on Missouri, 102-65. That was downright embarassing for the Mizzou Tigers
  • A pedestrian Notre Dame team taking down #10 Kentucky in South Bend, 66-62
  • Illinois losing again, this time at home to #11 Arizona. Btw, Arizona looks really good!
  • Oklahoma beating the hell out of #12 Arkansas, 88-66. It was that ugly...
  • #21 Ohio State just crushing #22 Wisconsin
  • Creighton dominating #24 BYU
  • G'town taking down the Orange of Syracuse. I hope Ewing does great things there.
  • Colorado State with an impressive win over Mississippi State to stay undefeated.
  • South Dakota State - men's hoops took down Pac-12 foe Wash State & football upset the defending national champion Sam Houston State to advance to the college football national semifinals.
  • Sam Houston State otoh not only lost in football, but their men's hoops lost to UTSA. Bad day for SHSU
  • St Louis took down Boston College, 79-68.
  • Western Kentucky spanked Ole Miss by 23
AND FINALLY
* Minnesota went to Ann Arbor and left with a 75-65 over the Wolverines. Michigan was preseason Top 5 easily and have now dropped to 6-4. Sure, the Big Ten is brutal, but you don't lose at home to a rebuilding Minnesota, esp if you are entertaining thoughts of a National Title run AND to a team that big brother up the road in East Lansing defeated in Minneapolis the game before this one. Anyway, Juwan Howard's club is struggling pretty bad.

Much lighter schedule today, but still some great games. I like that lineup on ESPN2 today. Interesting game on FS1 tonight as you have Rutgers, coming off the upset of #1 Purdue, playing at #23 Seton Hall, coming off their upset of #7 Texas. Which team has a "big win hangover"?

ESPN2
Noon - Florida State vs South Carolina (Rock Hill, SC)
2 pm - Virginia Tech @ Dayton
4 pm - Kent State @ West Virginia

BTN
Noon - Merrimack @ Indiana
2 pm - #1 Purdue vs NC State (Brooklyn, NY)
4:30 pm - #20 Florida vs Maryland (Brooklyn, NY)

FS1
Noon - Colgate @ St John's
7:30 pm - Rutgers @ #23 Seton Hall

ABC
3 pm - #6 Villanova @ #2 Baylor

ESPNU
4 pm - NJIT @ Northwestern

Pac-12
5 pm - Long Beach State @ #16 USC
7 pm - Oregon @ Stanford

ACCN
7 pm - Monmouth @ Pitt

The Barclay's Center in Brooklyn is the place to be today with some good games right there:

Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational - Barclay's Center (Brooklyn, NY)
11:30 am - Miami vs Fordham
2 pm - #1 Purdue vs NC State
4:30 pm - #20 Florida vs Maryland
7 pm - Iona vs Yale
^ The 2 & 4:30 games are on the BTN, not sure about the other 2. Both Fordham and Iona are pretty heavy favorites

Other interesting games for today

1 pm start
Davidson @ Northeastern
Fairfield @ William & Mary
Jackson State @ #17 Iowa State (ESPN+/Big XII)
Buffalo State @ Niagara (ESPN3)
Nyack College @ St Peter's (ESPN3)

2 pm start
Hampton @ Loyola (MD)
Presbyterian @ Charleston

8 pm - UC-San Diego @ Seattle (ESPN+)

Monmouth (7-2) is a 1-point ROAD FAVORITE against an ACC team (Pitt). Amazing accomplishment for this former NEC program :(

Hawks have wins vs. Cincinnati, Princeton, and St. Joes. They lost by 2 to open the season at Charlotte and a 5-point loss at St. John's.

Great day of hoops.

NC State let the upset of #1 slip away in Brooklyn. Wolfpack up by 10 in the 2nd half, but lose by 10 in OT.

#2 Baylor just dominated #6 Villanova, 57-36.

Looking forward to #23 Seton Hall vs. Rutgers and Monmouth at Pitt tonight.

So Monmouth is the latest team to win at Pittsburgh. The Panthers' record is now 3-7 and the have lost to the following teams: The Citadel, @ West Virginia, Vanderbilt, UMBC, Minnesota, @ Virginia and now Monmouth. Some decent teams for sure, but not exactly filled with elite programs. That seat has to be extremely warm now.

And Oregon, a preseason top 20 team, just dropped to 5-5, 0-2 in the Pac-12 with their loss to Stanford today. Not sure what the deal is out in Eugene.

Iowa State remained unbeaten at 10-0 after their win today over Jackson State, However, the noteworthy part to that is the final score of 47-37. A combined 84 points from both teams? Yikes. That must have been a blast to watch.

Only 16 games on the schedule tonight, 3 of them involve the America East and almost half (7) of them feature teams playing a non-DI opponent. Needless to say, there is not a lot of "made for TV" games and in fact, there is just the one on the airwaves tonight:

ACCN
8 pm - Albany @ Boston College

Here is the complete rundown of the games today/tonight (will even include AE games here even though I normally don't):

1 pm - Northern Illinois @ Chicago State (ESPN+) - safer in the midday?
6 pm - UMBC @ Princeton (ESPN+)
6:30 pm - Erskine @ Appalachian State (ESPN+)
7 pm - Radford @ George Washington (ESPN+)
7 pm - Johnson Univ (FL) @ Stetson (ESPN+)
7 pm - Carver College @ Liberty (ESPN+)
7 pm - LaGrange College @ Jacksonville State (ESPN+)
7 pm - Keene State @ UNH (ESPN3)
7 pm - Blue Mountain College @ Nicholls
7 pm - US Merchant Marine Academy @ Long Island
8 pm - Rhode Island @ Milwaukee (ESPN+)
8 pm - Sacred Heart @ Columbia (ESPN+)
8 pm - Indiana State @ North Dakota State (ESPN+)
8 pm - Cleveland State @ Oklahoma State (ESPN+/Big XII)
10 pm - Cal Poly @ Portland

So there you have it...for the most part, the "real" games don't start until 8 pm as only 2 games starting before then feature 2 DI teams.
