Carver College also has a women's team, sort of. They got beat tonight at Georgia Southern by a score of 133-15. The score was 60-5 at halftime.
There are something like 30 students in the entire school, and they have two basketball teams. So, what, max 10 non-basketball players in the whole school???Carver College also has a women's team, sort of. They got beat tonight at Georgia Southern by a score of 133-15. Players only meetings! So they DO work!? What's funny is it was the vets, the ones Penny chided about not wanting to take the young guys aka their competition under their wings, who helped them win while guys like Emoni Bates (who has not been that great for all his hype), sat most the second half. If Memphis gets these guys playing together and it translates into wins they probably are okay. The American isn't terribly strong outside of Houston, so they can certainly finish high in the standings if it clicks...but how many bids is the AAC going to get? Last year it only got 2 teams in. We could just as easily see a repeat of that.Memphis heard us talking about them. About a minute away from knocking off Alabama, and fairly convincingly.
I would take the Pac 12's top 3 over the ACC's current top 3. Can anyone name the 3rd best team in the ACC right now? UNC, Duke...Wake Forest? So, as I was typing this up I realized the Pac-12 currently has 3 teams in the Top 10: UCLA, Arizona & USC. Maybe that conference is finally getting back to being a true basketball power league. I feel like it's been a while since that's been the case.
Also, big game for Utah State and their potential at-large bid.
Agree completely with all of that, which is why it was very surprising to realize they had 3 Top 10 teams. Regarding Washington, there is no reason they should be so bad. That is a beautiful campus, great facilities, Seattle, great school yet that program is a dumpster fire currently.I would take the Pac 12's top 3 over the ACC's current top 3. However, after those Pac 12 three...it's...not great. Oregon has been a flop thus far and are already 0-2 in league play. Oregon State is totally not building on their Elite 8 run and are 1-9, losing to many one-bid league teams and giving Pitt a run for its money for worst Power 5 team in the land. Cal probably won't be any good in the league. Washington sucks and Mike Hopkins is more than likely getting fired after this season. Arizona State got a decent win over Creighton last night, but they're wildly inconsistent so that could go either way. Washington State has dropped some games to Eastern Washington and South Dakota State...Stanford, Colorado and Utah all might be mid pack but I don't know that they can do enough to make the tourney at this stage. None of those schools have a marquee non-conference win. Stanford has Texas coming up at home and Colorado has Kansas in Boulder, so if they really want to get resume-worthy wins, that's the last shot outside knocking off UCLA, USC, Arizona.
Arizona is just also way better than anyone thought at this stage too. I think they were picked to finish like 6th in the Pac 12 in their pre-season poll.
I read this tweet too, and assumed he was being tongue in cheek. But these days...UCLA canceled their game against Kentucky, so now it’s UK vs North Carolina. If the Bruins hadn’t canceled, one potential opponent, according to Jeff Goodman was, and I s%!t you not, Bishop Gorman High School.
Happy to see I had one post which wasn't completely haywire. Hofstra's win today came after one of their worst losses in recent history against Stony Brook where they were outrebounded by 20+. They were also missing their leading scorer today.Hofstra took two ranked teams to the buzzer this season with an OT loss to Houston and a two point loss to Maryland (the latter of which they were up 4 with 2 to play). Looks like Speedy inherited a pretty decent team this season. They'll have one more shot at it going against Arkansas in two weeks.
Good call. Hofstra has played pretty well this year and could easily be at 9 or 10 wins instead of 7.Happy to see I had one post which wasn't completely haywire. They won't have a shot as an at large obviously but they could be a serious sleeper if they were to come out of the CAA. We all know how their tenure in the CAA has been since leaving the AE.
Hey now just remember they DID earn an NCAA bid by winning the CAA tournament in 2020 but obviously, the tournament was canceled. Mihalich also rebuilt that program and did win 3 CAA regular-season titles, just lost in the conference tournament finals twice. They won't have a shot as an at large obviously but they could be a serious sleeper if they were to come out of the CAA.
