In a move that shocked none, the Knickerbockers of New York fired head coach Don Chaney.

In a move that shocked more than a few, the Knickerbockers of New York hired head coach Lenny Wilkens.

Sure Lenny Wilkens is the "winningest coach of all time" as Chris McKendrie (sp?) of ESPN just said, but in terms of what? Wins. Not championships. Not winning percentage. Not anything to do with playoff success. Wilkens has won 1,292 (182 more than Pat Riley at no. 2) and lost 1,114. He's not in the top 20 all time in winning percentage. In the playoffs he's won 80 games (fifth all time behind Jackson, Riley, Auerbach, and KC Jones) and lost 94. His .460 playoff winning percentage puts him well outside of the top twenty.

I think we're looking at one of the more overrated coaches of all time and now he's in New York.

Wilkins is not a great coach, but he is better than Fratello. Quite frankly, neither one of them is as good as Don Chaney, but Isiah is not the sharpest tool in the box. And the NY media was insisting on a scapegoat, so Chaney had to go.

They should have got Fratello. Wilkins is probably a "short term" solution. I think just for the rest of the season.
