OT: Kwame and Darko

The two most celebrated draft busts of the last five years, Kwame Brown and Darko Milicic, both picking it up. Brown, with the absence of Chris Mihm, had 16 and 9 last night following 21 and 11 two nights ago. That's a two game average of 18.5 and 10. Milicic is 12, 4 and 2.5 blocks the last two games.

If Kwame Brown becomes something worthwhile, Lakers have the makings of a nice squad next year. Bynum shows real potential. And with Howard and Milicic, Magic has the BEGINNINGS of a good squad. They can pick up Milicic for another year this summer.

Big men do take a while to develop in the NBA...meaning that Krstic is WAY ahead of the curve.

definitely, Krstic stepped up his game when he started last year, this year, he's simply improving better and better. He seems to have a better learning curve than at least Kwame. I'll give Darko the benefit of the doubt because he was on a ECC Piston squad.

Kwame always shows flashes of greatness here and there. Then all of a sudden he packs it in again, if the guy could stay consistent he could be a very good player. Sadly for a big man he happens to have terribly small hands which doesnt help him at all. Darko on the other hand I think will be really good, especially on the defensive end.

Kristic is on a different level from this two.

I think that Krstic, by traditional measure of athleticism, is not seen as athletic as Brown or Milicic, but as Harvey Araton points out in his book, those traditional measures undervalue things like good hands, good footwork, court vision, etc. They should also be considered part of an athletic package. He notes that neither Magic Johnson nor Larry Bird were seen as great athletes, yet both were...because of those hands, footwork and court vision. They not have been able to jump out of the building or run the court in record time, but they were great athletes nonetheless. Same holds true for Krstic when compared to Brown and Milicic.
I don't know about Brown but I know Darko is gonna be sick next year. I've seen almost every Magic game since he got traded, and I can definately see why he was taken number 2.

The use of the term draft bust has always been horribly misapplied to Darko

That is debateable. After he left, a number of his teammates noted that while part of the problem was the circumstances in which he played, part of the problem was his lack of effort. He may have been too young and too immature, but it is HIGHLY unlikely he is ever going to come even close to those taken after him, whether it be Anthony or Wade or Bosh, even Kaman. He qualifies, at least for now. As Rob Meurs, the international scout, said recently, Darko was a "nice player" but not worthy of a No. 2 pick, particularly in that draft.

Certainly lack of effort and maturity has been a problem, but he also didn't have a coaching staff that attempted to handle him properly.

The kid has tremendous physical tools for someone of his size. Actually, Melo, Wade and Bosh should all thank the Pistons for picking Darko because it allowed them all to go to perfect situations for them. If Dumars had taken Melo, he'd be labled a bust with 2 seasons under Brown.

granted that might be the case but he was a high pick and someone who felt frustrated at the lack of NO playing time through 3 years. I'm sure that play a part in him possibly not practicing at a high level all the time...

I have to stick up for darko also. Larry brown KILLED his confidence. He would talk about him in the press too like he's doing with marbury. He'd tell him to work hard and blah, blah, blah and the only thing darko would get is to go in for the final 2.3 seconds in a 20 point blowout only to stand there for the ball to get inbounded. And darko has been having up and down games as far as points and rebounds go but the blocks are there every game. I love krstic but it would be nice to have a guy out there getting 2-3 blocks a game even if he is only playing 15-20 minutes

I dont see Darko to be All Star type player.I watch him and Krstic in Serbian league and Krstic was way better then Milicic.Milicic have good physical tools but he is very lazy. There is no fire in him.I think Krstic is very underrated.Krstic is always in the motion, setting picks, boxing out he is all over the place.I think he has the potential to be double double type player.Krstic will be All Star I am sure.
Other Serbian prospect Nemanja Aleksandrov has similar problem as Milicic.Aleksandrov is the most gifted Serbian player that I ever seen in person but he is also known for lack of passion. He is very young so he has alot of time. This summer all these three guys should be playing in World Championship.Maybe Mile Ilic will be playing too.I like Mile Ilic.He is very long and very mobile center.I am so mad on his couch .He don't use him properly.I think New Jersy should bring him this summer. He has to put alot of veight.Next big prospect from Serbia is Dejan Musli.Kid is 14 year old seven footer.Very dominant center.Recently he plaed in cadet tournament against kids older then him two years. He avreges 16 points and 25 boards.

Very good first post miki. I have a question for you since you seem to know about Serbian players, has Nemanja Aleksandrov recovered from his injuries, is he playing just as well or is he still having problems.

I am New Jersy fan.My favorite players are Kid and Krstic. I think Aleksandro will be 100 % teady in mid April.Last time i heard he was in the US that was couple weaks ago.He already had some workouts in States.I will know more in April.I hope he will play in Japan. Our national team couch said we will go young with maybe two or three NBA players.

Wow...had not seen that. I know that Krstic and Milicic want to play for national team. They are both young and NBA players. Is it possible that Ilic could be on the national team? Draft Express had an article last month on Aleksandrov saying he hoped to play this season in Europe, hoped to sign with a team, then nothing else, no news.

Good to hear about Ilic. I suspected that about Ilic. He rarely gets the ball. Never seems to get more than 5 shots a game.
I think like the last 6 games or so, Darko has had 8.6 blocks per 48 minutes.

That's about right. I think the Pistons made a BIG mistake trading him away. I think the Pistons' bench is too old and that team could fall apart without an infusion of youth...not this year, but next year could be a problem: a lot of older players with new, long term contracts and nothing in the pipeline to replace them. That doesn't mean they won't win this year. They may very well, but I always thought Dumars would be able to keep the franchise going. I don't see that happening anymore.
I think Ilic should be on list.I would like to see him with Krstic and Milicic that would be good front court.I saw Ilic couple time last season and couple time this season. He is very long like Milicic. He is good athlete too.He move very good for guy 7"1.I saw some sick dunks from him.He should be very shot blocker. He has very long arms.He is very skini and thats the major problem.I think he could help Nets in the future.
Now I understand why the CNNSI article said Kristic's biggest problem is his extreme national pride.
about how krstic is alot ahead on learning curve compared to darko and brown.. Only thing about the learning curve is that players have their own unique learning curve. There are players who learn very quickly and stay there, or there are players who start very slowly and then explode after few years.(and of course there are just pure all stars who's just up there since rookie year)
its no quesiotn Krstic is better than these two right now but who knows what will happen in 3-4 years. My hope is that he will continue to grow but darko and brown both are raw talents and they might catch up.
