For those of you wondering (and I know there's a lot of you...) the UMaine women's team had a scrimmage and they look to be well on their way to turning the ship around from the Blodgett years. Not going to go into details, but I just thought that what I saw last night was worthy of posting a brief note. I expect the team to be a mid pack AE team, anywhere 5-7 would be appropriate IMO.

I thoughts fans weren't allowed in scrimmages
He misspoke...it was an exhibition game, not a closed scrimmage.

Which team did they scrimmage?? I assume it was a D-3 team since there's a whole bunch of them up in Maine.

Closed scrimmages I know your not. I think open ones are though...but those are usually exhibition games. I went to an open scrimmage last Saturday -shupioneers1
I believe at the DI level if it's a scrimmage it was closed if it was open it was an exhibition game.

True. D-3 play scrimmages unless their playing a D-1 school, so I should've said I went to one of those. I think all those are open, but hardly anyone puts them on the schedule, so you either have to know someone personally on the team, or follow someone on twitter to find out when those are.

For any of you Maine people, looking at Southern Maine's website and I saw they have a transfer from U of Maine named Rebecca Knight. Did she play much her freshmen season (last year) @ U Maine, and if she did, how was she??

absolutely a d1 talent. lefty swing player. played a decent amount but not starter or even 6th man type minutes.
I wouldn't say "absolutely".......I'm not sure if Blodgett recruited ANY D-1 players while she was there. That being said, Knight should flourish at the D-3 level as like most native Maine players she is very well rounded and has a good understanding of the game. She was too slow for D-1 IMO.

If any of you Maine fans care, Southern Maine (where Rebecca Knight transfered to) was picked to finish 1st in the LEC this year receiving 7 of 8 first place votes and they start their season later on today.

Just an update on USm and Rebecca Knight. She;s 8th in the LEC in scoring, 7th in rebounding, 1st in field goal percentage, 5th in free throw percentage, 9th in offensive rebounding, 5th in defensive rebounding. 8th in the conference, but only 3rd on the team that is scoring more then 72 ppg and is almost 7 ppg more then the next highest scoring team. Has USM off to the best start ever in progam history at 18-0 #13 in the country. Have their toughest test of the season tomorrow at Western Connecticut (have only given up 47 ppg the last 6 games), and if USM can win that, they more then likely finish the regular season unbeaten because I can't see a team on their schedule after Western that can defeat them. if any Maine fans want to watch this game, its available on littleeast.tv beginning at 1:00 PM.

They finished the regular season 27-1 and #8 in the country. Knight was a second team all conference selection. Lead the conference in field goal percentage (55.6%), but didn't score as many points as I thought she'd would (12.4 which was 3rd best on the team). Have an excellent shot to advance to the sweet 16, elite 8, or even final 4 (as I have them going).
