Good for him. Honestly the Raptors could've used him the past 2 years. Even with Weems limitations he's still a much better player than Ross and every bit as athletic.

One of my favorite players couple years ago. Can't believe the raptors always overpaid for SF like turkoglu, kleiza, Landry when they should have just developed Weems. He would have been no worse than Caroll if raps just took the time to develop him they way they tried to develop Ross. Good to see him back in the NBA.

No worse than Carroll? Come on, I have fond memories of Sonny but he isn't close to that level.

You think Weems being as good as Carroll is a ridiculous thought? Look, Carroll was drafted in 2009 and prior to last year's performance he was just another good sized swingman trying to find his niche in the NBA. Weems was every bit as good as Carroll back in 09, in fact Weems was the much better player. You think if the raps handed 32 min a night since 2009 to Weems and preached him to focus on defense and 3's that he can't be as good as Carroll?

This team is so bad at developing talent and overpaying for mediocre players from other teams it ain't even funny.

Very True !!! But that's goi to change starting this year!! Having our own D league team means we can take the time to develop them properly and easily move them up or down as needed. Best thing to happen to us in the last ten years.

What do you think Weems has done for the past 4 seasons? He's been playing basketball, just like Carroll. One player is significantly better than the other. One player would be taken over the other by 30 GMs in the NBA.

Carroll was a starter on a 60 win NBA team and arguably their best playoff performer.

Please, enlighten me as to what Weems has accomplished that is even close to that level.

Best NBA Seasons:

Player A: 12.6ppg, 5.3rbg, 1.7apg, 1.3spg. Shooting .487%FG, and .395% 3PT. (31.3mpg)

Player B: 9.2ppg, 2.6rbg, 1.8apg, 0.6spg. Shooting .444%FG and .279% 3PT. (24mpg)

I think you know which is which.

DeMarre has not had an easy ride, in fact, his start in the NBA was similar to Weems. But he stuck around and he's improved his game to the above-average status it is now. Weems couldn't stick around, it wasn't just the Raptors that thought so, it was the entire league that didn't think he was good enough.

They've both played basketball every day for the last 4 years, one has clearly excelled, while the other has not. That has nothing to do with the Raptors development squad, some players just don't have it.

Weems has developed his 3pt shot and is now shooting around 35-40% from the 3 in Europe. Don't know how well he'll shoot in the NBA but from watching his Euro clips he has definitely gotten better at shooting 3s.

I don't think it's worth discussing Weems vs. Carroll. The problem with Weems has always been his lack of size and how he can't share the court with Demar because both guys play a similar game. Even if Weems developed a better outside shot than Demar we still have the size problem since both guys are naturally shooting guards. Carroll is a 6-8 small forward and the prototypical 3 and D guy in today's NBA. Even if Weems is every bit as good as Carroll today 1)Weems will likely cost 10+ mil as well if he's as proven as Carroll 2)I would still rather have Carroll because of his size and better fit with Demar.

The argument just seems kind of off. I mean yes if we took time and developed Weems for 3 years then sure he might become a very good player. But then you're not re-signing him for 2 years 5.8 mil. If he really became every bit as good as Carroll then you're going to be paying him quite a bit of money. If you're a Weems fan then it matters to you because it makes a huge difference for Weems whether he's making 3 mil or 10+ mil. But for a Raptor fan all I care is whether or not the team has a 3 and D guy and the difference just isn't much in your scenario.
