Sad sad day. While UA sucked this year, and I have no love for DK as head coach, it at least felt he was trying to build the program the way we all want our programs built. ROY (Neely) and all rookie team player (Reddish) last year, ROY (Beagle) and kid that an argument could be made for all rookie team (Jackson) this year, and three strong freshman coming in next year, 2 of which look like they have a shot at continuing the ROY/ART trend. Do that a few years in a row and fill needs with the portal and you have a recipe for long term mid-major success.

Losing Beagle after year 1 instead of after year 3 (which is when we all guessed/hoped would be the case) really is a death nail to the program. Sets the plan outlined above back at least a year or more.

Honestly it sucks to be a UA fan these days. Thankfully it's St. Patrick's day so I can go and drink the sorrows away.

Ok, open question for the board because I know there are some armed forces and armed forces-adjacent people here: I saw a guy from Navy put his name in the portal today. Good player, too. But he's a grad transfer, has played 4 years at Navy. Is he able to defer his naval obligations, even if it's just to continue school and play hoop for a year? Obviously I don't know the ins and outs, but I guess I just figured once you graduated they dropped you on the boat, barring real extenuating circumstances.

David Robinson was allowed to serve only two years in the Active Reserve, but that was because he was too tall to serve at sea, which would limit his naval career options. And it was 35 years ago.

This is the closest thing I could find, I would guess that it will be very difficult for him to defer his assignment.
