PauloCatarino's Friendly Challenge #4

Here we go again, folks. And this time, it's Battle Royal!

PauloCatarino, Lachlanwood32, Diophantos and Krstic All Star will take turns selecting NBA players (all time) to get together teams to battle eachothers'.

The best team (as judged by fellow posters) wins.

RULES:
1- The Draft will be snake-like: wichever picks 4th picks 5th and so on.
2- PRIZE: the winner gets to choose a signature for the others to wear for a month (is it all right, guys?).
3- We are talking about peak value, here, not career (regarding players selected);
4- The players picked in the former Challenges are EXCLUDED from this Draft/Competition. Those players are:
PG- Magic, Oscar, Stockton, Payton, Isiah, DJ, Kidd, Pistol, Frazier;
SG- MJ, Kobe, Reggie, Crexler, Dumars, Petrovic, T-Mac, LBJames, West;
SF- Pippen, Bird, Dr. J, Worthy, Baylor, Barry, Grant Hill, Moncrief, Havlicek;
PF- KG, Duncan, Malone, McHale, Hayes, Rodman, Barkley, Petitt;
C- Hakeem, Kareem, Shaq, Russell, Wilt, D-Rob, Moses, Walton, McAdoo, Ewing, Zo, Willis Reed, Sabonis.

5- Each team is composed of 12 players;
6- After the rosters are set, the players will have the chance, one by one, to adress their teams strenghts and weaknesses and convince the posters they made the best team.

PACE: With 4 participants, this Challenge will probably last a long time. Still, the contestants should pick a player in the MAXIMUM time of 24 hours.

Now, for the draft order: since i'm putting up this event, i got myself 4 pieces of paper with the contestants name on it. Threw it into a bag, juggled it a little bit, and the Draft order came out as:

I believe Walton should be on the list of dis-allowed players Paulo, via your challenge with Minstrel: http://basketballboards.net/forum/showthread.php?t=185832&page=2&pp=15&highlight=Machine.
I'll take Wes Unseld. Won MVP his ROOKIE year, and was a monster down low.

Sorry. My bad.
This should be quite interesting; with so many great players excluded and four participants, these teams will look more "normal" but still overall should be extremely talented.

Look forward to it.

Edit: Of course, what should remain constant is Paulo getting creamed. Just kidding (not really), much love PC!
Currently in Sydney, so if any of my posts are a bit late here's an apology before hand. With my first pick I'll select:

Walt Bellamy. Rookie season averages of 31.9ppg and 19rpg should solidify my center spot. Way more impressive than Unseld's stats KAS! :p
This isn't going to be as entertaining. All these old guys no one's ever seen play.

Wasn't this the prize for each of the many challenges you lost last year? Because I don't remember you sporting an unbefitting sig following them. :)

Kflo is a gentleman and didn't want to embarass me.

Minstrel is a machine. He doesn't waste time claiming prizes. He has no joy in victory nor sadness in loss. That doesn't compute for him.
Time for some scoring in this show. I'll take Bernard King.

33 PPG on 53% shooting, toss in 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The most lethal scorer available in this challenge, and it's not particularly close.

My TWO picks:

- Dwyane Wade;
- Dave Cowens.
First time reading a thread like this....it seems like fun! Good luck to all the participates.
One of the most underrated players in NBA history - Artis Gilmore.

22/17/3 blks in 5 ABA seasons. In his NBA prime put up 24/13/2 blks and was the most efficient scorer in the history of the game (63% career TS%, once had a 70 TS% season). Solid defender as well.

one of my favorites ever, and as a peak player, could easily have been picked in any of the first 3 drafts.

He was my next pick, good choice. Instead I'm going to go with Bob Cousy (can't believe he wasn't picked in an earlier draft). 10 time all-NBA team, 13 time all-star, and an MVP to boot. He only won 11 Championships with those Celtics though.

Didn't have time to prop up my choices...

In D-Wade, i got myself a perimeter player who can do it all on the court: play PG, play SG, be the scorer, the distributer, defend, you name it. He's also a truly team-player: no matter how great he is, he has no problem playing within the team concept. We're talking 27-6-6 with solid defense and almost .500FG% here. If i can't get to pick a great PG, i'll give the job to Wade and be happy about it.

Dave Cowens is a gem: good enough scorer, great rebounder (his Rrate is awesome). His passing his way overlooked: how many centers averaged 4-to-5 apg? Yes, he is a tad undersized for a Center. But he will thrive in the PF role, if needed... Another hard-nosed team-player, here.
For my two picks, I select Dominique Wilkins at SF and Tim Hardaway at PG. Wilkins was a phenomenal scorer - on a par with anyone ever to play the game (except Wilt, of course) and Timmy was unstoppable before his knee went out.

'Nique: 24.8 career ppg, 6.7 rpg. Broke 30 ppg in two seasons and averaged 29.9 in another. Anyone remember his duel with Bird? :D

Timmy:20 and 10 for two straight seasons, career numbers of 17.7 and 8.2, even with his lessened abilities following the injury. A stellar point guard in his prime, with ballhandling and scoring skills like few others in NBA history.
Woops. Didn't see Frazier under point guard. In that case I'll take Adrian Dantley. Four 30+ppg game seasons, but what's most impressive is that he was shooting about 57% from the field while doing this. Impressive for a player that's 6'5.

Walt Frazier. His stats are nice, but the 4 all defensive teams to go along with it should help my team on defense. One of the best defensive guards ever to go with his all-around game.
Walt Frazier is off-limits. He has been picked in former Challenges.

Sorry.
