ryan Indianapolis: what do u think of the point guard situation for the Pacers...

Chris Sheridan: Well, it's a mess, really. Anthony Johnson is the man for the second straight season, and I don't think that was the plan going into 2004-05 or 2005-06. Tinseley gets hurt almost as often as Larry Hughes, and Sarunas jasikevicius has not been able to keep up with the pace of an 82-game NBA season. He was used to playing once a week for Maccabi Tel Aviv and dating Miss Universe the other six nights of the week. The grind over here has robbed him of his shot, which was his best asset.
That is an excerpt from Chris Sheridan's ESPN.com chat.

 at Sarunas... I think that he's right--we need a new point guard. Who are some of the top options out there?

Mike James - He's a Free Agent and so is Peja. Toronto is rumored to having a huge interest in Peja, so maybe a sign-and-trade could be worked out. He is 30, which doesn't scare me at all, but might Toronto. Another option is Jamaal Tinsley and our first round pick. This guy has been tremendous this year, just unbelievable, really. Even though he is in a contract year, I still want him.

Kirk Hinrich - Would probably have to send them either Peja or J.O. in a deal to get this kid. Even though we would get quite a bit more back, I am not down with sending them J.O. at all. We've already backtracked enough here.

Brevin Knight - A pass-first point guard. I prefer him to A.J.

Jason Terry - The Mavs might not bring him back because of Devin Harris. A sign-and-trade possibility.

Earl Watson/Luke Rodnour - Do the Sonics need both?

Others??

I would have to see more of Mike play, but from what I've seen he can only score. Nothing spectacular about his ball handling. I'd take Tinsley's passing and dribbling skills over most PG's in the league.

Most of the ball handling Tinsley has been doing is when he is hurt on the bench. That is my point!

But then who would start at PF?? there's no need to downgrade us from there...

PG's come easy, quality big men don't...

Go PaCeRs!!!!
That is why I said that I am NOT down with it. And I don't really agree. It's about equal. Look at a few of the best teams in the league: Phoenix has Nash, San Antonio has Parker, and Detroit has Chauncey Billups.

I really haven't seen much of Jason Terry in the past year. If he's good at defense, I'd love to trade for him. Tinsley off the bench would be great.
He's not good at defense. If you want defense, Knight or Watson would be the guys.

Hinrich would be the perfect guy, but like someone said, he's too costly.

How about someone like Ben Gordan? He's stock can't be that high anymore?

But, we seriously need to fix the PG situation for next season, Tins is definetly not the guy i want to have the ball in the 4th quarter for a playoff game. Sorry for sounding pesemistic, but the guy is not that good. I hate to think there was a time, maybe 2 years ago, where me and a few others argued (with a stright face) that Tins was better then Billups. lol

For a former 3rd pick in the draft, so he'll probably still cost a lot. Besides, we already have an undersized 2 off the bench, and Gordon's just a shooter.

Really? I'd want the ball in his hands more than any other player we have. He's a pretty clutch guy, but really needs to work on his shot again.

I'd still rather have an uninjured Tinsley than Billups. This was before Billups won Finals MVP and became massivly overrated. I can't believe people actually put the guy in MVP talks.

That ludicrous...Tinsley is still Tinsley. Even now, I'm surprised to see you question his ability on the floor. The only problem with Jamal is that he is so rarely on the floor, but when he's playing he's right there with in the second tier of PGs in this league with Hinrich, Sam Cassell, etc., just one notch below JKidd, Nash, Parker and Billups. I'm pretty sure I could make a case that he's Top 8 in the league if he could ever put together another 30 games played stretch.

Hinrich would be nice as well, but the Bulls aren't trading one of their two best players for anything short of stuff we don't want to give up. Maybe sign and trade with Peja, but I doubt Skiles is that interested and besides, then we'd end up trading Tins for 50 cents on the dollar.

And as for Ben Gordon, he's not a PG and he's also not that good. Undersized SG that can't really guard 1s or 2s and certainly can't run an offense to speak of. Think Dana Barros version 2.0. Chris Duhon is still taking half his minutes just because he can actually guard someone and not force bad shots to the tune of 42% shooting.

Tinsley makes way too many bad passes and way too many mistakes with the ball to be considered a top 8. He doesn't consisantly get near 10 assists a game and turns the ball over way too much that he is sopposed to. How many turnovers did he have today? It seemed like every time the court he would turn it over, him or AJ. It was so hard to watch. Either we would score or one of them would turn it over.

well, i gotta disagree there. you like tinsley which is fine. but, i would take billups over a healthy tins anyday. tinsley has games against certain players where he feels the need to streetball it. this combined with his chronic unavailability put me off on the dude.

Have you seen the way this guy has been shooting? He was 1-12 at one point last night and kept shooting. He probably shot us right out of the game.
