Former Trail Blazer Terry Porter confirms he’s involved in discussions with a local group that would purchase the team. He says talks are in the early stages and he can’t comment on it at this time. Clyde Drexler and Detlef Schrempf are among the other ex-Blazers contacted by a Portland businessman who wants to put together an ownership group.

I have a lot of respect for Terry Porter. But if we end up with an ownership group that includes a half-dozen egomaniac ex-Blazers and NBA players, I'm afraid the stew will end up resembling something else entirely.

OK, that made no sense. If you've got Schrempf, Drexler, Mini Mouse, Dudley, Porter and god knows who else involved, what kind of infighting is there going to be concerning the direction of the team, general rebuild strategy, and specific personnel decisions?

I can see Kiki, Dudley and Porter working together and coming to common ground and making good decisions. Maybe even Detlef, I don't know. But throw in guys like Drexler and Mouse and who knows who else, and suddenly my optimism goes right out the window.

There is much to learn from the Jordan and Thomas debacles.

Porter in the Blazers' front office I like. An ownership group made up of multiple ex-Blazers... I'm not sold on.
