It has been brought to the attention of the administrator of this board that posting of complete articles from the newspapers from sports writers is infringing on the copyrights of that writer. I was the worlds worse about that! So as of today i will stop doing that. I thought it was only articles like the insider where you have to pay to read them But Ron told all the moderators a different story. Here is what he said:

No, you cannot post the entire article. That is copyright infringement, and it is against the law.

Post the link, and post snippets from the article to enhance your own opinion in the post...

...AND, ensure this policy is enacted consistently on all your boards...educate your membership, by letting them know consistently and repeatedly how the copyright law works and how it is instituted on this site! Thanks!

So from here on out i will edit all articles posted that are the complete articles. Yes i know i was the worse one here doing that. But i will stop that as of today.

Good job for making this clear.

I was banned from this other site because I had the audacity to mention to one of the moderators that copying and pasting articles in their entirety was illegal.

Trueblue, I wonder if the Chicago Tribune would grant permission to have their basketball articles posted here in their entirety since they seem to be the ones we respect the most. Maybe a phone call or email would do it. The same would hold true for other papers if needed. I have reprinted stories from other papers in my publications with appropriate permission.

Yes i would think so. If you have permission i don't see how that would infringe on any copyrighted material. I wonder if it should be through the tribune or star or daily herald or through the writers or both?

I will look into that later tonight!

Here is the response of chicagosports.com

You cannot take stories off of our site and post them on the message board. You can, however, link to the stories on our site. That way people read the stories on our site ... but you can use the links to send them there.

I will too from now on Songcycle.

pduh, i was the worlds worse! I did it all the time. In my effort to relay information to fellow bulls fans i would post the entire article. Now i know i can't do that. We can post the link so people can read the article at the intended sight and also post our own take on the article and maybe a few quotes, but not the entire article.
