Sow, RimRockers Top Flyers
FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 27 -- One of the NBADL's recent additions, Pape Sow has already shown that he belongs - and then some.
Sow, assigned to the Arkansas RimRockers by the NBA's Toronto Raptors on Nov. 20, poured in 40 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 112-102 road win over the Forth Worth Flyers.
Sow, who also had a double-double in Arkansas' first game Friday, split his scoring evenly between the first and second halves, and added three assists, two steals and two blocks for good measure. He made 11-of-19 field goals and 18-of-20 free throws in 38 minutes.
As a team, Arkansas converted 43-of-49 (88 percent) from the line.
“The RimRockers were a bit stronger and more aggressive in the inside than us tonight,” said Fort Worth head coach Sam Vincent. “Although we continued to fight and play hard and still had a chance to win until the end, anytime a team gets to the free throw line as many times as they did, they will be tough to beat.”
The RimRockers got off to a quick start in the first quarter, outscoring the Flyers 25-16, and continued to increase their lead early in the second period. A personal six-point run late in the second quarter by Brandon Robinson helped the Flyers narrow the lead to 50-47 at halftime.
Arkansas came out strong in the second half and built the lead up to 14 by the middle of the fourth quarter before a late Fort Worth run fueled by Vonteego Cummings shrank the RimRockers’ lead to 98-93. However, the Flyers’ rally came up short in the end.
In addition to Sow's stellar play, the RimRockers got a major contribution from Kareem Reid, who had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Brian Jackson and Clay Tucker each added 15 points.
