Here are the stats per game for the Bulls' first 3 RMR games. I have included the Jammer Index (Jamr) and the Jammer Index per 30 minutes (J/30). This is my best attempt at a thank-you for all of SUS's great game reports.

I only have a couple of points.

1. Baxter has been very impressive in limited play. He has the second highest Jammer Index score even though per game he has played less than all but 3 players.

2. Crawford has been far more impressive than JWill. In fact, JWill, has one of the lowest scores on the Jammer Index due to all of his TOs.

3. Curry has been far more effective than Chandler. In fact, Chandler and Bags have been about equally effective.

Updated through 7/23 Denver game (4 games)

I again have sorted by the Jammer Index. I think this is a little easier to read. Baxter has been very impressive, and I hate to say it, but JWill has not. But these are only summer league games.

I still feel the same

Once again, I must state my feelings on "summer leagues"..... They are nothing more than organized street games that the stars of the team NORMALLY are not invited to. Now, having said that, the BULLS "stars", IF we can claim them to be this, ARE playing in these summer games. Having also said that, I appreciate all those stats; they are fun to look at. This is nothing more than a testing period, as will the first 10-15 games of the season be. JWilliams will get his share of starts at PG based on how Bill wants to get him into the mix. At first, Jamal will start at point; sooner or later, Jay will be the pg. Its just a matter of time and all those stats while they are fun to peruse, are just good reading until our starters play against OTHER teams' starters. GO BULLS~~~

Updated through Memphis Game 7/25 (5 Games)

Here are the cumulative stats, including the Jammer index through the first five games. Baxter still is a monster, and JWill still is not. But like Bama said, these are just summer league games. Watching last night's games, it is obvious that the Bulls are trying to run the triangle and are not using the pick-and-roll much. The triangle is not a good offense for an inexperienced team like ours, especially with all of the new players in these summer leagues. And on the other end, it is clear that it is difficult for young teams to defend the pick-and-roll. I think that is a big reason why we are struggling and will continue to struggle well into the regular season.

I don't anything about how the Jammer index is computed. What I do know is what I've seen with my own two eyes in both the Grizzlies game and the box scores. Wins and losses are not a concern for me during the Summer leagues, although I would expect a team with 4 regular season starters to dominate the summer leagues much more than than the Bulls have. I remember during lat years summer league in Long Beach, CA. Lamar Odom dropped by for a summer league game and dropped 40 points on the opposition. Which leads me to believe that the regular season starters are generally far and above what the summer league usually posseses.

What I've noticed ...

1. Lonnie Baxtor will be a great addition to the team. He hustles, he's productive, he rebounds and defends well (two thing the Bulls desparately need), and he has great hands. Hopefully, Lonnie Baxtor will push Fizer into be the well-rounded player that he is capable of being.

2. JWill is a SG in a PG's body. He needs to shoot far less, penetrate and dish a lot more. Also if he expects to be PG he's going to have to take better care of the rock. 6 turnovers (or 12 pts) could mean the difference in the Bulls winning several games. In the game against the Grizzlies, I also noticed that almost everytime JWill shot, no one was in position to rebound. Now I know that is typical of Summer League play, I had just hoped that JWill wouldn't be typical.

3. Eddy Curry looks strong. He's gained a lot more confidence in his shot facing the basket. He seems to be focusing a bit more on blocking out and reboundig too.

4. Tyson obviously hasn't played with the same passion that he plays in the regular season. Although I love his enthusiam, I don't like when acts like he's conquered the world after he flushed in a missed shot. Enthusiam is great, but there's a time and place for it. An easy dunk during summer league's is neither.

5. JC has not played to his potential, but at least he's looking to pass and not turning the ball over. Also he's also rebounding which is a plus.

I have a couple of points.

1. JWill really struggled with turnovers. He led the RMR in turnovers with 27 in 142 minutes. Next highest was Zack Randolph with 23 in 201 minutes, Qyntel Woods with 20 in 193 minutes, and Erik Barkley with 20 in 136 minutes. That was the most disappointing development of these games.

http://www.nba.com/media/jazz/rmrteam.pdf

2. JC did not stand out with great play, but he did not play poorly either. I think part of the dissatisfaction with JC is frustration with how the Bulls as a whole did during these summer leagues.

3. Chandler and Curry were both much better than last year in the RMR. Bagaric was much, much worse. Hassell also played more poorly than in last year's RMR. Bagaric and Hassell are probably the next two biggest disappointments of the RMR after JWill.

http://www.nba.com/jazz/news/rmr_teamstats_final.html#bulls

4. Baxter clearly was the star of the RMR for the Bulls. He certainly looks like a keeper. His 22.3 rebounds per 48 minutes led the RMR by a wide margin. Mason was not nearly as impressive. Both Hassell and Mason need to turn the ball over less and shoot a higher percentage to be effective role players, i.e. like Hassell did during the regular season.

But this is just the Summer League, and as I have argued elsewhere, I think the Bulls suffered a lot by trying to run the Triangle. (It seemed to take away from any time spent figuring out how to defend pick-and-rolls.) Also, as JWill pointed out, a lot of these teams played in two Summer Leagues, whereas the Bulls only played in one.

And MichaelofAZ, the Jammer Index, created by Jammer himself, is:

Start with points.
Add 1.5 points for each steal.
Add 1 point each rebound and assist.
Add 0.5 points for each block.
Subtract 1.5 points for each field goal missed and turnover.
Subtract 0.5 points for each foul and missed free throw.

No single statistic summarizes play perfectly, but the Jammer statistic does as good of a job as any other that I have seen.
