"Madrid — FC Barcelona's Ronaldinho has won France Football magazine's 2005 Ballon d'Or, or Golden Ball award, for European player of the year, according to reports Thursday.

While the winner will not be announced until Nov. 28, leading sports daily Marca said Ronaldinho was photographed with the trophy during an interview by the magazine in Barcelona on Wednesday.

The newspaper also said Chelsea's England midfielder, Frank Lampard, finished as runner-up in the worldwide poll of journalists.

Ronaldinho, who was one of 10 Brazilians selected among 50 nominees, played a key role last season in Barcelona's first league title success in six years.

If confirmed, Ronaldinho will be the fifth Barcelona player to win the award over the 49 years it has been bestowed. The others are Luis Suarez, Johan Cruyff (twice), Hristo Stoichkov and Rivaldo. Ronaldo and Luis Figo had left the club a few months before when they won in 1997 and 2000 respectively.

Ronaldinho, who joined Barcelona from Paris-Saint Germain in 2003, won FIFA's player of the year award last year."

Predictable and deserved. Lampard and Gerrard were good picks for 2 and 3 respectively as well. Kaka is also someone who has a case for the title.

No surprises here. After a nightmare season for Barcelona a few years back, they snatched Ronaldinho from PSG, and they've never looked back. Barcelona are arguably the best club in the world right now, and Ronaldinho is their catalyst.
