No one asked for it! But here's the JPI field. Not trying to project who WILL get in and at what seed, but what the field SHOULD BE. The JPI tries to normalize schedules, rating everyone's performance vs "Locks," Bubble Teams, Post Season Teams and bad teams as it was, with a regression to mean if everyone played distribution of games vs each group. The final number is a "30-game balanced schedule win total" (with decimal places).

I do fudge some categories for teams to give a better representation. i.e., I'll move a loss to 135 from "Bad" to "Post" if that team has zero games vs postseason teams; or I'll consider Bona vs VCU games as lock games because if we're looking at one team's at-large status, the other is in the field. I then will shuffle some teams down a bit in a my seed lines if I do that for them (Hence the 7 seeds have better scores than the 6 seeds). Winthrop is an outlier at 21-1, playing no real Locks, Bubble teams.

Cue the COVID-pause excuse for getting Duke into the dance. If they hadn't gotten COVID booted from the ACC tournament we'll just assume they'd have made the finals.

If they aren't selected this probably would mean they're season is over.
Did anyone hear what Steve Lavin said last night?

Said it's Duke. They deserve the benefit of the doubt because they've made it so many years in a row. Was actually serious, too.

Shocking. I hate to be cynical - actually, no I don't, I love being cynical who am I kidding? - but I think this is the only way they keep Duke out of the tournament. And until they aren't given a provisional spot on selection Sunday, I still won't believe they're out until their name isn't called.

Karma baby. Buncha quitters during the OOC.

Was that what Duke did after they decided to quit on the OOC?
Yeah. Coach K and their program scrapped OOC. I also read that they have been traveling from Durham to Greensboro. They are staying in a dorm with football players and football recruits on a visit to campus along with some other students. They are so dumb.. Just go away.

Yeah, no to everything Duke related for this season.

- Cutting them a break because of COVID pauses? Sure, if you do that for EVERYONE. Duke would still be left out because Saint Louis would get a 4 seed and everyone else in NCAA had the same thing happen to them all season long. Duke isn't special.

- Because of their history? Again, eat all the dicks. NCAA bids should not be the birthright of BCS conferences, even though every change that's been made since like 2001 has been moving toward that. If you want to fix college basketball, doing the at-larges by straight up win percentage would be the best way to force membership into fixing the problems themselves. Duke thinks it's unfair that Belmont gets an at-large at 25-4.... go play at Belmont and hand them a loss so that doesn't happen.

So can someone answer this. If you test postive you can keep playing so long as you have five healthy players, but if it happens before you get to Indiana you can't?

The NCAA doesn't plan to pause the 2021 basketball tournament if there are positive COVID-19 tests on teams.

Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior vice president of basketball, told the Goodman & Hummel podcast that there is "no reason to believe a team will be knocked out" if they have a single positive case based on the protocols the NCAA has put into place:
