NJN shouldn't get too giddy about the DET game. PHX is coming up!

PHX invades CAA and the NETS are in for a track meet.

If L is smart, he uses his reserves early and often saving his regulars for the crucial minutes.

Coach Frank should use Planinic and Wright liberally and often. Even Padgett should see a good bit of time. The only caveat is with Vaughn. He doesn't match-up well and, therefore, his minutes should be minimized.

The NETS aren't going to get away with their bench playing the kind of minutes they did against DET. PHX will fatigue the starters quickly unless Coach Frank uses the bench early and often mixing them with the starters.

L has to open the floodgates to overwhelm PHX and keep the pressure on. Planinic and Wright can help enormously. Let 'em play and score and defend and run. The running game - there's going to be a lot of that.

P.S., The Holzman era Knicks knew how to stop the running game. They could slow it to a half court game that you couldn't overcome. They could also outrun a running team in limited stretches to neutralize them. NJN is uptempo, but unless they can keep up, they have to try the same and keep their starters fresh. Out-defend, out-work and out-run the Suns in spots. Kidd has a huge matchup advantage over Nash he should exploit. Maybe NETS should clear the middle and let Jason post-up Nash constantly and fould him out. VC & RJ should look to attack and foul out the players that give the NETS the most trouble. Krstic should look to improve his inside play and pop. Some inside-out'd help.

Yeah..Frank should utilize the bench this time...
Yeah, problem is the NETS aren't a half-court team that can force a running team into a half-court game. Best half-court players on the NETS are VC and Krstic.

Especially after an exhausting DET game back-to-back with PHX. Frank has to make sure his starters are fresh in the crucial minutes and quarters. Rotate in the reserves and use them for more minutes at a stretch.
Nets need to make as many buckets as possible so the Suns don't even get a chance at a fastbreak.

I agree with all you've said, but you forget to mention their secret weapon, Amare. Adding him makes them more effective in the halfcourt, he can hit the midrage jumper now, or he can just outmuscle whoever is guarding him. That guy is a beast, I hope our bigs are up to the task. Even if we do slow them down to our pace, you've got to worry about Amare down low and if you double him, the rest of his teammates can ALL hit threes. PHX is like a videogame team, ridiculous.

Very good strategy right there. I think Kidd has got to stop Nash from getting out & running & also exploiting his defensive defficiencies. Hopefully Kidd has learned something about Nash from the last time we played them. Kidd will have his hands full all game. He will be key to a victory tonight.
Good points - all!

NJN has to disrupt the momentum and flows. Poaching and cutting off the passing lanes will help. NJN has to get the PHX video game out of rhythm.

Further, Nash gets flustered and overwhelmed when trapped. Teams that beat PHX trap Nash. He's at a height disadvantage. He can't pass over taller, quicker players when doubled.

Nash is only effective in a free flowing full-court offensive game where he's free to do his thing.

He makes lots of mistakes with taller guards on him that that are as quick. Some trapping might help. Maybe a selective full court press trapping defense and changing the defensive looks that he sees will confuse and off-balance him.

Wright could help out on this. He, Jason and RJ might trap Nash a lot. I don't know about Planinic defensive skill there, but he'll be key to keeping the starters fresh, momentum and pressure on the D.

The key to beating PHX is breaking down Nash. Why? He's the distributor that makes the offense run.

I want to see a lot of pick n rolls with Kidd and Carter. If they switch, Carter posting Nash up is most likely to draw a foul since Phoenix will quickly double. Amare isn't 100% yet so I don't think he can be a big factor. We should go deep into our bench today since yesterdays game was like playoff game. Carter's minutes should be down today since he played 42 minutes yesterday AND chased Rip around.

I'm going to this game and so far I'm 3-0 in games I go to, the Nets better win.
The best thing you can do with Phoenix is stick to their men defensively, keep a body one them at all times, let them beat you 1 on 1 and use good communication on screens. The Suns run them all the time in the halfcourt to get mismatches and we have to just play those without fouling and without doubling. They have alot of weapons but help D just opens up other guys for even easier shots because they are such an unselfish team. Stay up on the guys and if they're gonna score make them shoot a 2 over a 3 and preferrably off of jumpers instead of down low to keep them off the line. I'm not saying let them shoot from anywhere but to try to dictate what shots they take and make those shots more diffcult.

Another method is seeing if we can bait them into getting caught up with one or two mismatches we can hope that that cools off their other shooters or atleast keeps the out of rhythm. Making Nash a scorer and contesting but allowing Amare and Marion theirs while staying at home on the multiple great shooters they have at their disposal. It's tough either way because Phoenix is so hard to match up with but in all of their close games i've watched this year these seem to be the kind of gameplans that have disrupted their usual offensive barrages but even then they can still beat you because they are so deep. The schedule makers must hate our guts giving us these guys on the back end of a back to back after playing Detroit.
