I read after Shaq got fined for his flagrant on Nocioni that he would be subject to suspension if he were to get another technical (Probably 1 game). Is this true? Did the 2nd flagrant have to be a type 2 also?

I'm prepared to see him suspended if true.

Hard-fouling O'Neal subject to suspension

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. · Due to two after-the-fact rulings by the NBA, Heat center Shaquille O'Neal is subject to a one-game suspension should he be called for a severe flagrant foul the balance of the season.

Under the NBA's scale, players are assessed one or two points for a flagrant foul, with a suspension mandated when the total exceeds five points for the season.

With NBA Vice President Stu Jackson this week upgrading the penalty-one flagrant foul O'Neal was assessed for his blow Saturday to Chicago's Andres Nocioni, the Heat center now has four points in the system.

Earlier this season, an offensive foul by O'Neal against Utah center Jarron Collins was upgraded by Jackson from a non-flagrant violation to a penalty-two violation.

A penalty-two is assessed for "unnecessary and excessive contact."

By rule, if the penalty-two violation is assessed during a game, an ejection is mandatory. In both cases, O'Neal was allowed to play on before the upgraded rulings were issued by Jackson days later.

O'Neal initially declined to comment on Jackson's ruling, but then relented Wednesday before the Heat faced the Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

"When I retire I will be coming after his job," he said. "He's not that good. You can quote me on that."

The flagrant-foul scale is reset for the postseason. Should O'Neal exceed five flagrant points in the Heat's regular-season finale, the one-game suspension would be served during the first game of next season, not the upcoming playoffs.

Asked if a looming suspension would impact his intensity, O'Neal said, "No. No it will not."

O'Neal was fined $5,000 for the infraction against Nocioni. A one-game suspension would cost O'Neal in excess of $222,000.

Yeah, he's gonna be suspended >_<

Once again it looks like he'll miss the only Canadian game on the schedule (Toronto). Coincidence?

Hope the team'll be alright.

if this is a regular flagrant, it will be 1 point, and equal 5 on the season, not exceed it

so unless its upgraded, the way I understand it, he wont be suspended

You're right. I completely missed that part, sorry.

But after seeing how they ruled that foul on Nocioni as a type 2, would anyone here be surprised if they tried to pull a fast one here too?

possibly, but as long as it doesnt carry over to the postseason, I really couldnt care if he missed a game or two here.....

I like heard fouls. With the way the game was tonight (punk a** Jermaine and refs), I love that foul

I was there, I guess you had to be there in person, it was a HARD foul. The guy was stuck on the pole of the backboard for like a minute, I thought he had a concussion. Can you say OWNED!

Good news from Ira Winderman's blog:

-- The second-quarter flagrant foul by Heat center Shaquille O'Neal on Pacers center Jeff Foster means O'Neal will be suspended for any additional flagrants during the regular season. (The penalties do not carry over to the postseason, when the count is reset at zero.)

-- Actually, should O'Neal's chokehold on Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal earlier in the game be reviewed and judged a flagrant foul by the NBA office, he could be suspended as early as Wednesday's game in Toronto.
Jermaine said on ESPN that Shaq was just holding him back.

I pissed off the entire Pacers team yesterday while they were staying at the Four Seasons. They were all checking out and I overheard the assistant coach telling the guys how important a win would be for the squad especially since Jermaine was back. I started laughing obnoxiously and blurted, " Why would Jermaine make any difference you will all be owned by the Heat tonight." David Harrison was like shutup, and I said," This is my house I say what I please besides who are you? I doubt you will see playing time tonight." The whole Pacer team was fuming. Lucky for me the Heat won, in convincing fashion.
