---Gave up on NBAdraft.net...came to basketballboards...so much better...so little trash...nice...anyways, read on:
For those who think Ming is sure-fire bust...in the argument that he won't be..........
I've heard many people say, "Ming will just turn out to be another Shawn Bradley; a 7'6 stiff."
Shawn Bradley has scored 32 points twice. He has grabbed 22 rebounds 3 times. He once got 11 offensive rebounds. His career blocked shots high is 13. This doesn't sound like that bad of a player...
...but Bradley is soft. He plays like a pansy. Ming is 30 pounds heavier, more mobile and stronger. He is a better shooter, and more skilled in all facets. Bradley may be a better shotblocker, but that is it. Ming can drive to the hoop and finish with either hand.
But what separates Yao from becoming a slightly better Shawn Bradley? Bradley went on a Mormon mission before joining the NBA. He just has no focus, or heart. Yao does. He was raised in a basketball family, trained to become the best Asian player ever. His life IS basketball, he is focused and committed to it. If Shawn Bradley had that focus, he would be a top 10 center easily, maybe top 5, all while being less physically gifted than Ming and less skilled.
Maybe the Bradley comparison isn't so bad, if all we are comparing are their skills. You need the mind to apply them...and that is why Ming becomes a great player, what Shawn Bradley never could attain.
