Waiting game

Rookie Eddie Basden hasn't made much of an impression on Skiles.

"He hasn't played very good defense yet," Skiles said bluntly. "We're still waiting."

Basden was signed as a free agent last summer primarily for his defense. Skiles hasn't given up on him. The coach activated Basden for the Spurs game in case he was needed to guard Tony Parker, among others. He never got in the game.

What else does Basden bring to the table? Is he really a guy worth sticking with if he doesn't figure it out? If you're a one dimensional player, you better actually be able to do the dimension your purportedly bring to the table.

I interpreted this quote as meaning that Skiles doesn't think Basden's played very good defense so far in the regular season. Given that he's played about 20 minutes total, I'm not too alarmed.

In summer league and in the pre-season Skiles was very high on Basden's D.

I doubt he would get playing time even if his defense was good, we need the offensive production.
