Question is prompted by this bit in O'Bryants profile:

O’Bryant’s effort also wavers throughout a game, not consistently showing the fire to be as good as he could.
Isn't that true of most NBA players? I've never understood why analysts always trot this criticism of college players out. Even MJ 'conserved' his energy when he could so he could turn it on when needed...

Any thoughts?

playing hard is what every players does not named Jerome James. Some players aren't as talented thus they need to play harder to get good results.

Also, some players (actually many players) cant survive the grind of a 82 game season and need to pace themselves. My favorite player is the perfect example of this
