Well another name is blowing in the trade winds, the new name is Steve Francis. According to ESPN, Minny is one of the few teams that can bring in a guy like Francis. The Magic are interested in Wally and Hassell. Do the Wolves want to do that though? Sure. Jaric and probably McCants would be moved into the starting lineup.... Looking like this maybe?

PG-Jaric
SG-Francis
3G-Mccants
PF-Garnett
C-Griffin

Personally, I am not blown away by the possibility of a Francis and KG duo. I think Hassell and Wally make this team more effective than Fracis and McCants. But man would Orlando be good? Nelson starting at PG with Hassell and Stevenson at the 2, Wally and Hilla t the 3, with Howard down low....

Thoughts?

It would certainly be interesting. It would leave us thin at the 3. If we could also swing the Kandi-Miles deal, then it may work out well.

The whole trading Wally idea is a dilema for me. For years we have been trying to unload the ugly contract, but now he is actually playing at a level where you can justify that he is not overpaid. On one hand, he is playing so well, that I wouldn't want to ruin that for a known malcontent in francis (refusing to go to Vancouver when drafted, and his recent issues). On the other hand Wallys trade value will never be higher, if we ever want to get a quality player in return for him, now is the time.

Over all, i see this deal as a larteral move, and doesn't neccesarily make us any better.

I'm not sold on this proposed trade. The Wolves got endless point guards, but again Francis can be 2, but I don't see any improvement in this area if that's possible. I got to agree with oblivion about Wally's best performances this season, that is what we are waiting from him all those years to come. This is a wrong time to trade him away when we needed him the most, scoring-wise. I hate to say about Trenton, but he seemed to be better, just a little, offensively. They would die out there without his perimeter defense and KG won't be the only solution to the defense if the trade would have happen.

Yeah I don't see him really helping us out, any point guard for that matter. We are in need of a center... But what team isn't?

If we could get someone to fill the 3, I wouldn't feel so badly about this trade. For the record, malcontent Steve Francis doesn't worry me...I think he would benefit greatly from playing with KG, in terms of both mentality and play.

You know what? I think I'm in favor of the trade. I love Wally, and he's playing great this year, but there is no chance that this team gets any better in the forseeable future if they don't make any moves. Plus, two years from now, I think Francis is definitely easier to trade than Wally (especially if he plays well alongside KG). He's a decent player in the clutch, and a good scorer, which we desperately need. We just need to find another solid defender to replace Hassell. I say go for it (as much as my loyalty to Wally hates to).

:soapbox:

Francis would actually help you guys a lot. But his contract is ugly and in reality he's simply not nearly good enough to put the Twolves over the top, even with Kevin Garnett running things.

I'd go after Artest as hard as possible (do whatever it takes outside of KG), and add a PG and backup C (if possible) in this year's draft.

Hassell-Artest-KG with two other scrubs is one damn good defensive team if the coaching isn't wacked.

The problem there is that assuming the Wolves make the playoffs, which they should, that pick goes to the Clippers. Any offseason additions are probably going to have to be via free agency.

Casey is actually a great defensive coach. He doesn't know anything about offense and is useless during the game, but as far as defense is concerned I couldn't be more happy with him. Toss Marko Jaric and Eddie Griffin into that lineup with those 3 and it's one of the elite defensive teams in the league. That's why I'd actually rather give up Wally in a potential deal for Artest than Hassell. Wally's playing the best basketball of his career, but I'm not sure him and Artest would get along while Hassell is already good friends with him. I doubt Indy's interested in that contract though, but I can hope.

I heard on NBA Shootaround that the Wolves were the ones who didn't want to trade Wally/Hassell for Ron.

Yeah, according to Star Trib, the deal won't happen mainly due to Hassell's success as of late.
