First Half, NU couldn't hit water if it fell off of the Titanic.

It's now 49-48 Huskies with 8:17 to go...

Wow, who would have thought this...

2:00 to go... NU up by 12... 66-54

Barnes is on FIRE in the second half... started the game 0-6 from the floor, now he's 6-12, and 5-9 from 3.

JJB put in another workmanlike game, too. 22 pts on good shooting and seven assists but the most encouraging thing about this game was the comeback. A lot of teams would have folded down that big in the first half.

NU 73 SBU 61

From the home office at the Marriott Hotel in Mexico City (Boy do I love the Internet)...

NU is down 37-20 at halftime... and SBU is up by as many as 18 (39-21) in the second half...

NU is down 45-30 with 15:11 to go and goes on a 26-3 run over the next 9:45 or so to take a 56-48 lead with 5:55 to go.

NU shoots something like 10-14 from the field in that period of time to put the game away. I've got to admit, I'm in my hotel room following this thing and in the first half NU is playing so badly, I'm thinking the season is going down the drain.

Barea finished with 22, Barnes had 17 for NU. SBU had Beauford with 14, Munir and Konopka each with 13.

Anyone witness this thing?

What happened? Cori Spencer seemed to be dominating early, and he barely played in the second half.

Well this certainly surprised me! NU down by 17 last I saw, so I turned off the game case and left the room pi$$ed off. Come back 45 mins later and NU is up 12!

I was really worried NU was going to let down again before another big game, ala losing to Bingamton before the BU game. NU really needs to win these games. This win hopefully will be a big character builder and give them some momentum going into Vermont on Sunday. That game is a must win, somebody has to knock off Vermont. Should be interesting.

A game report by someone at the SBU game would be great...Was there any friction between JJB and Javorie?

Also good to see Meshak is coming back, he will at least replace Corn. Still need an actual big man, though!

I just got home from the game. NU was up 17-11, and just started playing horribly. They kept forcing the ball inside, and unfortunately, the Seawolves were intercepting the passes. Barnes was horrible. But to give him his due, he played ferocious defense on Munir, holding him to one three. Stony Brook was hustling, and scoring inside. But we were just horrible.

It seemed in the second half that Spencer was on the perimeter - why? Barnes had a silky touch to his threes. Barea, who had 3 threes in the first half, was driving with utmost skill. It was a totally different game.

Anyway, I'm glad we turned it around. And I'm glad I got to see Barea do his thing. Macarachuk was somewhat subdued towards the end, resigned to his fate maybe.

And the refs - well, too many technicals. But they were better in the second half. You know what I'm saying. It's a tough job, and you know they do their best. None of this crew, to me, looked like porn stars. They all looked Irish, 2 with grey hair.

I'm glad I wasn't home early enough to be monitoring this one on the website. If I had, I may not have checked back int he second half. By the time I looked, the game was over and I read about the comeback.

What is the deal with team??? No disrespect to SB, but how did they fall behind by 18 in the first place? There's no reason any team in this league should get that kind of lead against NU and this is the second time in less than a month it's happened (Binghamton being the other). Is the Barea/Wilson thing festering? Is Barnes not fitting in chemistry-wise?? Is Everhart doing anything to get this ship righted??

I think this team has talent but unless they figure out how to play together and on the same page, I'm afraid it might be a lost season. Of course I'm thankful the Huskies were able to come back and win the game, but I'm still worried about how they're playing.

I'm curious what the Barea/Wilson thing is? Is there a link to documentation of this thing? Can someone please enlighten us about the thing?

Hmm...I don't know Hoop Fan, that post seems too thoughtful to be the czar, plus there was no !!!!!!!!!!! points.

Maybe just a new NU fan on the board?

Um...they had a verbal argument on the court during the UNH game. Javorie pretty much chewed out JJB for airballing a 3 instead of passing to an open Barnes. Jose responded with "Shut the F*** up man!"

Gonu.com game report obviously isnt going to publicize anything negative. The AP game report had a small snipit about it. Saying something along the lines of, the huskies almost lost control of the game after Javorie Wilson and JJB got into a verbal argument on the court. This forced NU coach Ron Everhart to call 2 timeouts to calm his team down. (something along those lines)

Globe actually had a reporter at that game and the headline the next day read something like:

To air is NU
Huskies pull out victory

I was at the game, and personally, I think it was blown a little bit out of proportion. Everhart called one time out after the airball to calm things down, then another a couple minutes later when NU made 2 turnovers i a row.

I went to practice today, and if there's a rift between Wilson and Barea, it's news to me, to them, and to the team.

By the way they were acting before and during practice, I'd have to say it was one of those "heat of the battle" things during the game.

I didn't realize that my very first post to this board was going to be the subject of debate. For those of you who obviously think I'm somebody else, I can assure you that's not the case. I've been reading this board most of this season, but that was my first post ... mostly because my job has finally hit some downtime which allowed me the chance do some net surfing at work last week.

Anyway, the "Wilson-Barea thing" which I caused some friction with, in my opinion and contrary to some others, IS a factor. Javorie chewed JJB's butt out again today during the Vermont game. For all of his talent, JJB still takes some of the worst shots at the worst times and Wilson seems to be the only one who lets him know about it. Everhart and Martin, the latter of which has no problem reaming pretty much anyone else out the whole game, barely say a word to him.

Unlike some of the other posters here, I don't know the players personally and I don't know if the on court squabbles have any lingering effects. But it seems to me this team should be better than 14-9 at this point with the talent it possesses. I'm going to switch over to the NU-UVM post now.

Pip -

You are correct in saying you don't know the players involved, and to someone who doesn't know the players involved from a pure staus of watching games, I'd say if that point of view is probably understandable.

I was at practice the day before the UVM game and talked to a bunch of people about it. Javorie Wilson is intense and emotional and wears his heart on his sleeve, he just has a tendency to hide it more than Barea does, so when he explodes, you notice it. There are zero lingering effects. Suffice to say, that I wouldn't have an issue hiring either at my firm, should they ever apply.

I agree that the team probably should have won either the UVM or BU game at home, and the Bing game at home - no excuse for that.

Not sure how many games you go to, but I've seen Barea get chewed out more than once during a game...

I go to pretty much every home game ... and some on the road that are makeable -- UNH, BU, a few others here and there. I agree they TRY to chew Barea out from time to time, but he barely even turns his head to listen. He usually walks away with a look of disgust.

If you know these guys personally and you say there are no lingering effects, I'll take your word for it. I saw Wilson really get after JJB again against Vermont early in the second half when Vermont was opening with that 18-3 run. Barea had taken back-to-back crazy shots in an effort to stem the tide and after the second the ball went out of bounds. All five Huskies were back around halfcourt waiting for Vermont to in bounds and come toward them and Wilson bent over and had some words for Barea. From that point on, the ball movement was much better.

I'm not trying to kill JJB here ... I think he's a terrific player. I just think sometimes he tries to do it all and at times that alienates his teammates. He averages plenty of assists so I'm not saying he never passes, but he does seem to get into ruts where he doesn't pass for chunks of time, usually when he feels the game is slipping away. That's not a good habit to get into. Against BU, it worked because he made all of those crazy shots in the second half and the Huskies came back. But more often than not that's going to fail.
