Syracuse's McCroskey to Vermont?

Some hearsay for the attorneys on the board...

Saw a post on the St. Johns board that Scout.com is reporting that Louie McCroskey is considering a transfer from Syracuse to Vermont. I'm not a scout.com subscriber, so I can't confirm. McCroskey's playing time has diminished greatly, though.

He'd only have one season at UVM (or wherever he goes).

There is even an article running now saying that a transfer to Vermont is a possibility. Says he is open still though. He would be a nice addition, would likely help a lot when guys like Trimboli are juniors and UVM *hopefully* is at the top of their game again. The downside is he would only be here a year...but he has potential impact at the AE level...
6'5" athlete running the floor with 2 PGs? Fast break points galore!

I like it. I don't think we could get anything better for '08 with our last scholarship this year. He would be a great option for Trimboli and Vier and help the loss of Holm and Klimes down low. A guy who gets solid minutes for a good Big East team would no doubt be a at least a good starter on an AE team. We need to improve our talent, speed and athleticism and he would help a lot for that one year (where we should be in the top part half of the conference.)

Who would you rather have? Ryan Schneider for 2 seasons or Louis McCrosky for 1? No brainer I would think.
Talked to a buddy of mine who is a Cuse alum...he is definately leaving, just a matter of where...he would likely play SF for Vermont...not a good enough shooter at 2 spot and we don't need (I think) a PG
Word has it grades would be an issue with him landing at UVM.
Shouldn't have a problem getting into Albany then! Sorry, couldn't resist...

Perhaps Albany would be a possible landing spot for McCroskey (although they're a good school, they're more lax with academic requirements than UVM)

Something tells me McCroskey wouldn't go all the way down to an AE school from a Big East school. An A-10 or CAA university is definitely possible.
Grades or no grades, Louie McCroskey for 1 year? No thanks, I'll pass. We don't need Syracuse scraps.

McCroskey was recruited to be an outside shooter, but the problem is he isn't very good at outside shooting.

We can do better.

Oh good lord...only a person from an esteemed IVY league wannabe would make a factually inaccurate statement such as yours.

TWO WORDS FOR YOU:

Answer to the question: Why did UA have trouble recruiting NYC kids?

In fact, UA has some of the MOST STRINGENT requirments for athletic entry. More to the point, it was one of the reasons, surmised of course, why McElroy was lukewarm on extending Brown last year...he wanted quality student athletes.

In case you were wondering, UA's adept is run by the man who was in charge of American...a pretty good school in its own right.

NEXT SILLY STATEMENT PLEASE.

And let's not get into a who has better academic standards argument based on the general pop...it doesnt translate here.

As a final note....my grades were borderline IVY eligible (I had a few recruiting me for baseball and I almost attended that little school in New Jersey) yet it WAITLISTED ME AT UA....I had to wait for a "leadership" entrance spot.
Admittedly, I am a little intrigued with the possiblity of seeing what McCroskey could do playing for UVM and in the AE, and we've really never had someone transfer down from a major conference like some of the other AE schools, but I must say that we can win and be succesful with AE kids- and we certainly don't need guys that can't hack it in the major conferences taking up scholarships for a couple of years.

I know he was a little down on the talent at times this year (same talent that went to the AE championship with him) , but I hope coach Lonergan knows he is going to have to win it with AE kids, not transfers.

It's been done before.
I think I'm with UVM Hoop Cat on this one...1) I tend to be skeptical of the idea of using a scholarship to land a kid with 1 year of eligibility. Everytime you use a scholarship on someone, you're not using it on someone else. When you hand one out to a transfer who'll play 1 season, you're probably not missing out on a *top* recruit, but you're probably passing a future 6th Man who will have *4* years of eligibility, and I think on the whole, that kid is more valuable.

2) I don't think McCroskey would do for Vermont what Adeleke did for Hartford. I don't think he'd step on to the floor and be the absolute conference-menacing center of attention that Adeleke was this year. I'm just a little underwhelmed with McCroskey in general, and while the quality of skills/athleticism in the AE is certainly well below that of the Big East, I don't see McCroskey coming in and just ripping up the joint.

I think transfers can be great in the right situations, but I don't think this is one of them for UVM.

I don't like transfers, especially one with one-year of eligibility, and I'll tell you why.

As a longtime fan of Vermont, it was always enjoyable watching a raw rookie develop into a top-notch competitor, ie Kevin Roberson, Matt Johnson, etc. When Senior Night comes, you are happy and sad because you feel that you know the players (even though you might not have ever met them personally) who have worked so hard for the team for 4 years. You know their strengths, you know their weakanesses, you see their on-court personalities, and you know you're going to miss them. I spotted Germaine Mopa Ngila shopping at Shaw's last Sunday, chatting amiably with someone that he bumped into. I've never personally met him but I feel that I know him, and it felt good to see a young man that you know worked hard for 4 years and achieved the maximum of his potential.

Bring on the "true" freshmen. Red-shirt if you must, but let them play for 4 years at Patrick Gym. That will be part of their memories of college for a long time.

Another under-used SU guard played 2 years at Iona and didn't do too much against Vermont last year.
